The mists of the ancient grotto lay heavy upon the vale within, their tendrils cloaking and seeping around the outlines of vague shapes illuminated by what little light reached this place. Far flung trees, jagged boulders, and shards of ice littered the area, but within the depths of the mist lay something far less natural. A legend forgotten to time & magically bound to this place had begun to stir, called to action as the faintest rays of the sun scattered upon its rough worn hide.

An armory’s worth of weapons glinted in that glow, spear, swords, and more exotic blades alike embedded into a behemoth with the long memory of the warriors that had attempted to do it harm. Little more than toothpicks to the colossus, the weapons of the little people stung more with the audacity of their wielders than with the bite of the blade itself. It remembered long ago, for it had slept a kalpic length, that insolent mob that had rose against it only to be crushed beneath its hulking form. The descendents of those ingrates might still live, the monster reasoned, and so resolving it began to rise from its place of rest. It towered above the grotto walls, shaking loose the stone of their construction as it strode forth from the mists, regaining its strength amidst the light of day. No challenger would be tolerated, and no tribute would be enough, for the beast sought sole and absolute domination over the land once again, as it had many thousands of years before. This was how it had always been, and this was how it would be again. This was the way of the YOKAI.

SCREAMARTS make his EATBRAIN debut with YOKAI, a four track EP that follows in the wake of his collaboration with EATBRAIN heavyweight AKOV on the label earlier this year. With YOKAI, SCREAMARTS deliver an EP tied together by melodic and rhythmic themes that are presented in quadruple variation, spanning the range from strutting drum focused sequences to sonic atmospheres rendered through exacting & experimental sound design whilst each maintaining the ability to make an impact on the dancefloor. With YOKAI, SCREAMARTS thus present a new kind audio monstrosity to the EATBRAIN horde, leading them into new horizons for their first EP on the label.

The conflict had raged through the night, staining the battlefield black with the dark blood of the fallen, a crust of congealing life permeating the bleak soil of this desolate place - the air punctuated the occasional shriek as soldiers fell - their voices joined with the weak moans of the dying that littered the landscape. Their enemies were gaining ground on that field of death, threatening to overwhelm the horde and put an end to their centuries-long advance. Deep within the shifting sands lay the remains of a once great city, a monument to the hubris of those who had once thought they could conquer the indomitable forces of the planet. To hold back the everpresent encroachment of the dunes they had raised walls of great heights, built upon the sacrifice of those least fortunate among them, those condemned to work beneath the blistering heat of the land. It was through their blood that the city was built, through their blood that the fortunate lived in such an otherwise inhospitable climate. As the death of these sacrifices increased however, they bore new life elsewhere. Their blood, seeping through the cracked desert soil, awakened something long since sealed away.

Fed by their misery, the creature’s power grew beneath the dunes. For each that fell it became stronger, its hunger rising as it tasted more and more that which had been denied to it for so long. Upon the night of the sun’s peak it rose, driven by the heat that still radiated from the earth. It was a malstrom of sand, fire, and bone, an amalgamation of destruction which surged across the landscape. What little life there was in this desolate place was subsumed into its maw, becoming a part of the dynamo which swept towards the city. Its winds battered against the walls, grinding their stones to dust which only furthered the creature’s power. In minutes it had broken through, and as the city was swallowed within the vortex the DUST DEVIL reclaimed for the desert what was its own once again.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN with the release of DUST DEVIL, a five track EP featuring collaborations with TRILO & CHASER. DOUBLE RUSH features the powerful combination of MIZO & CHASER, as well as the combination of a frantic topline and charging bass which work together to move the track forwards at a rapid pace. DUST DEVIL whips this dynamic energy into a further frenzy as its basses whirl with unrestrained fury atop a devastating drumbeat. While the gradual approach of HORIZON grows to become a steady lock-step rhythm that soars with effortless aptitude over its arpeggiated bassline, MIZO & TRILO’s ARTIFICIAL NOISE takes a different approach as it leaps into the musical melee, bolstered by the power of its roaring synths.The second collaboration with CHASER, CONTACTLESS, closes the EP, its desolate soundscape quickly transformed into a tech filled groove that rides upon its rolling sub and the strange shiftings of its tonal topline synths. Backed by the powerful Eatbrain platform, DUST DEVIL is sure to soar across the sonic landscape for quite some time.
