French producer Antigone has been a leader and mentor for many, with his feet firmly rooted within in the French techno scene, his ability to delicately construct melancholic techno arrangements that burst with intricate and deep-seated melodic elements is truly remarkable.
Former accolades include a residency that spanned no short of five years at the established Concrete club in Paris, alongside releases on Exhale, Possession, Taapion Figure, and Trip Recordings, he now begins a brand-new project, with the start of his own imprint ‘No Pain No Gain’. Kicking things off with the first release this September, it intends to deliver groundbreaking original material with no creative boundaries.
‘Latexa’ kicks down the doors with a flurry of scything hi-hats and an armament of nose-bleed kick drums, the haunting rise of pads scatter across the intro to create a claustrophobic feeling of pressure which gloriously translates through the entirety of the composition. Title track ‘Total Control’ staunchly refuses to let up with Its plummeting sound design and twisting mechanical atmosphere. The perfect high- energy arrangement that would find itself boldly inside a peak time set.
‘VegaPunch’ sees Antigone toying with vocal samples in a rhythmic context as the jolted phrases bounce between four to the floor kicks and sharpened 909 hats. The track steadily begins to surface with a rippling, motor-like presence. ‘The Devil’s Playground’ concludes the EP with an authoritative and blistering ensemble of rhythmic elements. The EP is a beacon of no-nonsense techno for the scene to truly sink its teeth into.
