For the third entry on our mix series, we proudly have one of our closest friends, ManoWarp.

ManoWarp is a techno drum and bass project created by Ricardo Almeida, a producer and musician from Porto who lives in Zurich.

He started out in electronic music in a curious and uncommitted way in the 80s/90s with an Amstrad and Equinoxe as a DAW.

Over the years he started playing electric guitar and bass in garage bands.

His influences include punk, metal, industrial, techno and hardcore/drum and bass.

This project began in 2007 after joining the Pt.Core collective in 2006, and after attending several drum and bass events with friends (one of which was Blast) that undoubtedly had a huge influence on his personal taste and the sounds present in his projects.

After a break from the dnb scene to focus on an electro punk band he has been part of since 2018, the project was recently reactivated and is his main focus at the moment.

Paperfunk Recordings has always respected — and will continue to respect — the technoid and techno-DnB sound, and we've always strived to contribute as a label to the development of this branch of Drum & Bass.

While techno-DnB emerged back in the early 2000s alongside titanic subgenres like neurofunk and techstep, technoid drum and bass was born under far more intricate and subtle circumstances. The rise of the technoid subgenre is directly tied to a particular group of artists and their unique sonic influence during the years 2007 to 2011.

Its peak — the true triumph of technoid — was in 2008, right at the center of this period. That was the golden age of the subgenre we love, when labels like Offkey, Sinuous, and many others were putting out astonishingly heavy releases with utterly mad and unpredictable sound design.

We’re bringing that tradition back. We’re reviving the raw power and chaos of technoid and techno-DnB — and with great pride, we present to you our new compilation: TECHNOID: GREATEST COMEBACK VOL. 1

This series will feature works by artists who embody the very essence of why these subgenres continue to captivate us. Wesley Barbosa, nome por trás do projeto Parallel, é músico (estudou desde os 8 anos de idade) e apreciador de vários gêneros musicais. Desde 2014 na cena, seus sets atravessam os estilos, do comercial ao pouco conhecido, do house aos híbridos e experimentais, tendo como proposta a quebra de conceitos e união dos estilos. Sempre buscando novas influências, tem raízes fortes no trap e no dubstep, adicionando pitadas de outras vertentes não rotuladas, porém sempre buscando as baixas frequências. Hoje trabalha, como vertentes principais em suas seleções, com o bass house limpo e grooveado e o hybrid trap agressivo e acelerado. Fora da discotecagem, já fez trabalhos de curadoria musical e em 2017 passou a ser redator em um site especializado em música eletrônica grave. Seus sets já passaram por casas como Espaço Elevate, Mono Club, Trackers e Club 33.

Wesley Barbosa, the name behind Parallel, is a musician and a lover of many genres and music styles. His sets walk through the styles, from commercial to barely known, from Pop EDM to hybrid and experimental, with the purpose of breaking concepts and joining music styles together. In an unstoppable search for new influences, he has deep roots in trap and dubstep, adding a little bit of future beats, footwork and other unlabeled styles, but always looking forward for the low frequences.
