From the darkest recesses of the drum & bass world, this LP sampler from Audio signifies the last step towards his debut LP on Ram Records. Already receiving support from the scene’s heaviest, including key influencers Noisia and Beats1 mogul Zane Lowe, this next release is the predecessor for an album set to make history.

First up, ‘Overdose’ sees Audio return to his brutish, rolling bassline slashed with gritty drum loops and underpinned by quaking subs. The master of dropping ominous samples into the mix, it propels deep into a murky conundrum of sound. Steroid driven kicks bloat out the already weighty composition, sliced with distorted, elevating beat patterns and bass to create an angry, sneering and unapologetic opener. This is Audio once again pushing through like a freight train… Unstoppable.  

Next up is the Mefjus rework of Audio’s signature Ram release ‘Ulton’. His production standards were already credited at this year’s Drum & Bass Arena Awards; it’s not surprise that Audio enlisted an artist who’s received recognition for spreading his signature sound across dance floors worldwide. Mefjus’ moulds the original around the unfaltering guns of his peddled drums and wavering bassline. Flicking the switch midway, you’re thrown head first into the techy soundscape the producer reigns over.

So once more we return to the cold, nefarious sounds of Audio a final time before his album is dropped on the Ram imprint. The dial is currently turned to full throttle and it’s easy to see why the anticipation has only been growing with the release of each single.

Overdose

Chris.SU & NickBee lead the charge with the epic 'Frozen Forever'; massive sci-fi synths on the intro give way to snarling bass and heavy, angular beats at the drop for a track that has been tearing up the clubs across Europe.

Chris.SU & NickBee - Frozen Forever (Out Now!)

Alongside the delicious aggressiveness that made Audio so renowned, his ‘Beastmode’ LP cracks him open like you’ve never heard him before. Fiercely powerful, yet intricately different, each cut from his debut album on the Ram Records imprint packs a very different punch whilst hitting with the same fierceness and wealth of talent. 

‘Beastmode’ reflects all his output to date. Whether it’s the old-school flavor of virus, or the steppy-unapologetic riddims he’s served up for Ram, this record won’t leave you questioning who rules supreme over the genre’s murkier waters. 

Whether it’s the half-time, two stepping ‘Move it Along’ or the pulsing, snarling undertones of ‘Thud’, you’re blessed with a barrage full of fresh sonic assaults. ‘Thunder Ridge’ serves as the perfect opener, a brand new record with synth-laddered foreboding intro which pushes you below the surf. Tinkling hi-hats and a distorted LFO adds shockwaves throughout the mix, submerging you even deeper. Urgent, pulsing and nastily crafted, this is Audio at his most fearsome. 

On the other hand, ‘Rogue’ presents a clanking, runaway riddim that snaps its teeth with every break. Stacked between ominous build ups and jaunty samples, the second drop flairs out as angrily as the first, demonstrating Audio’s ingenious sound design. 

And flipping the switch once again is ‘Sovereign’, a nod to the producer’s roots and a track that gradually builds its presence throughout. Between warbling stabs and peddled kick drum, you’re drawn by the aural nerves. Elevating beat patterns set you up for another descent into madness, through a stringently tight composition. 

Featuring artists, such as drum & bass heavyweight Prolix, also take center stage. Their collaboration ‘Creatures’, alongside the revered lyricist Nuklear MC, adds a welcomed surprise. ‘Creatures’ delivers everything you’d expect and more; steroid-pumped subs, the dark overture of Nuklear and apocalyptic atmospherics. 

Also featured on its weighty track listing are singles ‘Make it Happen’, ‘Overdose’, ‘Drop it Human’ and ‘Shatterdome’. They were a precursor for what was to come, which signified one of the darkest, most uncompromising productions yet on Ram Records… In all of its twenty five years of history.

Untold millennia of annihilation lay in the wake of the abomination. Its timeless reach stretched across countless generations through fables of its legacy. The deep tremor of each ruthless touch it lay upon mankind’s destiny cast a long and terrible shadow through the many lives denied, the many stories that would remain forever untold. The flesh of each man’s future, torn by early entropy, reduced to dust – vitality joining the dank earth and with each that fell sank the lives of children that would never be. The horror had no name, born of pure, ill anger – a hate filled spirit without a shred of love, save for that which it carried for its brother, death. Waiting for the meaningless rivalries of man to erupt in war, it wakes at the brink of battle, feeding from fear and the cruel hearts of men as they wait with nervous agitation at the edge of slaughter. Their minds so fixated on killing their brothers, they barely notice as dark clouds roll across their battlefield, blotting out the sun and bathing all in the filthy bloodlight. Pushing their lust for death across the brink of reason, each side charging without fear at their enemy’s spears, the unutterable sounds of battle climaxing as its brother, the reaper, starts to swing. Descending into the chaos and slipping between the shadows, the abomination moves without mercy, twin blades moving without rest, writing in the language of carnage on the bodies of men. The horror of its work complete - it drinks in the silence that settles across the battlefield as all lie still, its hatred resonating in the quiet… the MASSACRE beyond it cutting deep.

AGRESSOR BUNX have torn an exceptional groove over the past few years, with previous releases on EATBRAIN including THE ORDER EP and their PROPERTIES OF ADDITION LP leaving a serious impression on the drum and bass community. With the duo representing as part of the core EATBRAIN LEAGUE live crew and having laid waste to raves across Europe with their touring, the time is ripe for their return to their father label for a fresh assault on the eardrums. A single moment passed in silence before the view of silicone eyes, underneath which a mechanical being partook in an organic substance, taking a drag of her cigarette there within that soundless void. Though it did not produce the same biological reaction in her as it did in humans, the action possessed a certain juneau sais quoi, an attitude that she delighted in performing even at a moment like this. With her inhale, she briefly considered disabling her pain sensors. With her exhale, she clung to the humanity they brought her. Instead, she chose to fire her left tear duct, letting a single bead of moisture hang like fresh dew at the corner of her eye. Would they find her and reassemble her? She wondered at the thought, but hoped not. The city before her had been her world, and now before her it disappeared.

The shockwave tore through her body in an instant, traveling at a speed not slowed even by the durable alloys of which her skeleton was composed. She felt wire after wire detach, disconnecting the circuits that fed information to the high speed processor that served as her brain. There went her hair, her right leg, her ring finger and the ring it bore. In the instant that she was dismantled by the blast she pondered how the humans felt at this exact moment, or if their brains were too slow to process what was occurring to them. Her skull detached from her faceplate, and with the remaining voltage her brain experienced one final thought. “So this is what it feels like to die”.

EATBRAIN powerhouse MNDSCP debuts his latest work on the label with his SLICER EP, a name that portends well to the expertly honed sonics that lie within.
