This week’s DETECT comes from one of our own. @teecra opened our UNFOLD XL edition four weeks ago from our Second Room, and we bring you this today. 

Teecra’s presence is most visible at UNFOLD either at the entrance or the floor, yet she also plays a big part helping behind the scenes, from our communications to our marketing.

Years of organising house and drum & bass raves in North London gradually introduced her to techno, and these influences are still felt today in the bouncy, positivity exerted by the music she plays.

Her own drive in life comes from a desire to demonstrate that trans people come in many forms - that there is no one way to be trans. 

For her UNFOLD XL opening set Teecra initially delves into trance, dub and percussion, before ramping up the energy and exploring the many varied grooves of techno. This DETECT can now be heard on our FOLD SoundCloud.

Berlin queer party Herrensauna—which means "men's sauna" in German—started as a seed of an idea shared between friends Cem Dukkha (AKA CEM) and Nicholas Endlicher (AKA MCMLXXXV). They were teenagers in Vienna at the time, dreaming of becoming DJs in Berlin. When they finally relocated, they started throwing parties in the basement of a Neukölln off-location. This quickly snowballed into a residency at Tresor, and now a globally recognised brand that curates lineups at clubs and festivals around the world and counts Salome, SPFDJ, Héctor Oaks, JASSS and DJ Saliva as residents.

In this RA Exchange, hosted ahead of Herrensauna's curated night at Wire Festival in New York, CEM and MCMLXXXV spoke with senior producer Chloe Lula about the party's origins and how its mission has changed, shifting from focusing on gay men to championing an all-inclusive vision of queerness. They also discussed their artwork and aesthetics—including their provocative re-appropriations of quasi-religious iconography—as well as the role that platforms like theirs have in shifting the cultural zeitgeist and attitudes towards the LGBTQIA+ community. Gaining her first show out of London in August 2022, she played the pre-party for Scotland’s number one queer alternative night SHOOT YOUR SHOT, ahead of founder Bonzai Bonner and headliner Cormac. This year has seen her go from strength to strength; opening for CEM and Giant Swan at Phonox and an extraordinary three hour set ahead of DJ Bone, at one of London’s most iconic clubs Fold. 

Co-founder and co-host of Melatrois on Reform Radio, which airs monthly and has been running for over 6 years serves a balanced mix of heartfelt chats and tunes. Extending her radio sensibilities LO-LOW has made a few radio guest appearances on Voices Radio, Stripped.fm show and Netil Radio. She was also invited by co-founder Nala Brown of AMPFEMININE to curate a mix for a takeover on Ghana based station, Oroko Radio amongst new talent and other members of the collective. LO-LOW also co-produces and has presented Fold Talks, a new series ran by the London club, which is aimed at giving under-represented communities a voice in the electronic music realm.
