As well as running through some covers and originals on electric guitar we decided to have a go at doing an acoustic set too in preparation for some up coming open mic nights. We also had a very first go at doing Losing My Religion by R.E.M. The mandolin hadn't been out of it's case for so long, we're talking years here, that the zipper was seized up! Also a string broke on the second take! Haha!

We did a few covers to warm up and then had our second run through of our setlist of original songs.

'The Places Where We Go' now has proper lyrics and this is the first time having a go at them! Tom wrote up the lyrics using the last recordings of Leon's improvised lyrics as a starting point. He then added some structure and more imagery and this is the result. It was a lovely collaborative process. The start of many more to come!

A bit of a change of sound here. We decided to have a songwriting session in the control room of the studio, stripped back and simple we worked on two sets of lyrics of Tom's, 'City Lights' and 'The Standing Man'. What you hear is the very first attempts and subsequent takes of these brand new songs just captured on a little stereo dictaphone!

Tom had recently run a half marathon (go Tom!) so we decided a chilled out and relaxed session was required. What happened was pretty special. Tom wrote some of these lyrics when he was just sixteen and now all these years later have been realised into song!

Alternative rock band from Sheffield.
HELLO WORLD. We are Blackwater Lightship! Tom and Leon met on a stag do in Manchester and soon realised that they shared a love for many of the same bands, R.E.M. being one of the biggest! When Tom mentioned he played drums and Leon said he played guitar and sang, they decided to meet for a jam. Picking up session members along the way!

We initially got going doing covers of some of our favourite bands/artists such as Nirvana, The National Wilco, Dolly Parton and as mentioned our beloved R.E.M. We've put some of these up on our sessions! This has expanded into the territory of working on original material, written by Leon with a collaborative effort of adding arrangements and trying out acoustic versions. We're looking forward to bringing this and our roster of covers to a venue near you soon. Here's to the spirit of sonic adventure!
