В першому релізі Perception столичного артиста Макса Малахова, також відомого як MAAT — сукупність глибоких почуттів та медитативної експресії, що наче загортають в легку напівпрозору тканину. Основна ідея альбому прослідковується в усіх треках — це відчуття синестезії, одночасного сприйняття і відтворення звуку, кольору й смаку. 

Реліз створювався в період блекауту в столиці, в той час, коли мільйони українців залишились наодинці з собою та своїми емоціями й отримали змогу відчути свою справжню сутність. В темряві зникають візуальні образи й загострюється сприйняття звуку, смакового та тактильного контакту — так може виникати синестезійний ефект.

“З перших тактів відчувається вхід у феномен синестезії” — розповідає МААТ. “Мета альбому — введення слухача в трансформацію сенсорного сприйняття від синтезу звуку, музичної форми, ламаної ритміки та 808-го басу до асоціації
з кольором, смаком і відчуттям тканини, що обволікає в різну форму”.

В EP представлені пʼять треків, які в послідовній динаміці вводять слухача у пʼять різних станів — Sequence, Velvet, Reflection, Wider та Synesthetic. Музичний потік комбінує електронне звучання в жанрах брейкбіт, електро та джангл з живими партіями саксофону та гітари. Візуальне оформлення альбому — відео та обкладинка — створене артистом Azis Manoukian aka Manoua. Майстеринг альбому -

AUSTRALIAN LOCAL BERTIE RELEASES FIRST SINGLE FROM DEBUT EP VIA PHENOMENA RECORDS

An uplifting, punchy, dancefloor ready house track, drawing on sapphic history and the artist’s personal journey.

Having established herself as a palpable force in the DJ scene, Naarm-based Bertie is announcing the long awaited single of her debut EP, ‘Carabiner’ on Melbourne/London label Phenomena Records. The first single ‘Carabiner’ launches the forthcoming EP this side of the year on November 16. 

Stylistically, ‘Carabiner’ draws from Bertie’s queer identity, love of groove and years of DJing, to combine the crunchy, punchy stylings of 90s house, with contemporary soundscapes and storytelling. Each track is a fusion of percussive beats, acidic motifs and euphoric highlights with an uplifting nature and groovy finish. As Bertie explains, there’s a multifaceted narrative behind the sounds:

“A carabiner is a coupling link that binds two things together. It’s a tool used by climbers to keep them safe should they fall into suspension, swinging side to side, until they find their grip once more. And most notably, it’s a sapphic symbol. One that took hold in WW2 as women entered the labour force. A multifunctional tool that became a secret signal for lesbians at a time when discreteness was crucial. One that wasn’t just about sex, but about connection, about finding community,” says Bertie.

“This is what I was thinking about when I wrote this single. The communities that make us feel understood, the movement of life and the movement of self, both the physical and the mental, and the connections that occur when people and music come together.”

The first single titled ‘Carabiner’ was built from noises created by the metallic clip - jangling, clicking and tingling. These sounds formed the first beat to which a melody was shaped, and three more tracks inspired, bringing the EP into fruition.
