This was one that I started several years ago, but I finished tonight.  The project seemed like an appropriate time to let it go as/is.  It was intended for the Orphan Work record I made; the inspiration was reading accounts of anthracite miners.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get it together in a way that made sense with the rest of the songs I was working on.  There's some midi mellotron, violin, guitar and I manipulated cassettes. . .

I changed the words to bob dylans song about heroin (mr tamborine man)   TO RAISE AWARENESS TO KETAMINE AND ITS DANGERS,  IF UR GONNA DO IT, BE CAREFUL ITS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE, 

MR FRYING PAN MAN

It’s a proper chunky show this week, and that’s despite there is not a lot to be getting on with! A delightful PO Box delivery brings a bit of joy into Paul and Eli’s hearts before offering a snack based Off Brand, Brand Off that will task their taste buds. Can Eli tell which is the Nik-Nak and which is the Nik-Nak knock off? The odds are stacked against him. Elsewhere, Paul crafts another deeply weird character that, for a change, Eli becomes incredibly fond of! Is this the beginning of a beautiful new friendship? Meanwhile, behind the scenes, there is trouble brewing and it’s all going to end badly for the Cheap Chaps, they just don’t know it yet! All this and Paul amusing himself to death, enjoy!

Ep 308: Mulchy Fibbage

Now that the dust has settled on the apocalyptic 350th episode, Paul and Eli can now concentrate on delivering great podcast entertainment. It’s time to reboot! They’re going to be more mainstream, more approachable, and far less crass from now on! At least that’s the plan. As ever with CheapShow, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It doesn’t take long for all the bad habits to roll back in, in fact they barely get past the cold open! Luckily, there is a great “Price of Shite” to investigate, kindly sent into us by the folk at the Killer Rabbit podcast. There’s also a surprisingly difficult “Off Brand/Brand Off” for Eli to take on. Are the knock-off Pop Tarts, Top Twists, better than their more recognisable competitor? Or are Pop Tarts pretty horrible to begin with? As ever, take a dive in at the deep end and indulge in more economy comedy podcast goodness.

Ep 351: Reboot

A long time ago, CheapShow was sent an unusual 7” vinyl record called The Sounds of London. The record contained an audio snapshot of the sounds of Britain’s capital in 1967. It’s a fascinating collage of iconic sounds and environmental background noises, offering a unique peek into the past. Rather than talk it about it on a Silverman’s Platter segment, Paul & Eli decided to go out into the centre of London to try and recreate it instead! This week, they’ll race around with their portable recording kit and try and collect as many modern takes of the original vinyl as possible. The Cheap Chaps will zip from Trafalgar Square, to Waterloo, back to Piccadilly Circus and on towards Fleet Street grabbing all the sounds they can! Will they be magnificently successful or will they completely cock it up? It’s a walkabout adventure that takes in bird dirt, arguments with elevators, a lucky break with the bells of St. Clements and a grotty plan to abuse a street performer! It’s the Sounds of London 2024 in the only way CheapShow knows how.

Prologue
I ran the spore prints through the psychospectrogram. Seven of the nine samples proved viable and will be processed by the administrators in due course.

One
I count back from nineteen for what feels like the 1000th time. I stop and start counting again. To Clear the mind is key.

Two
I can hear them. No, it's just hypnogogic. Yes? Not quite there. Hello? What's going on?

Three
The intense feeling of enormous pressure on my face means it might actually be working this time.
"What the..."
"Who's that?". I can hear quite clearly now.

Four
The small one seems to be able to project feelings on to me. Pretty weird ones if you ask me. They seem like a total menace. The other one, well... they're a dinosaur.
This place is unbelievably beautiful. Maybe it's the novelty but hey I'm here, right?

Five
We've been walking for days now through this godforsaken place. Forget what I said in my last log. Yes, I know how to drink out of a leaf. No, I don't want to eat hair.

Six
So it looks like I've been drawn to experience a natural disaster and the local micro-volcano and surrounding hot tub sized springs are spewing magma like nobodies business.

Seven
I'm running. We're running back to my machine. They seem to think this is funny.

Eight
Great. The control pad is melted. Portal is however... open right now, so I think I'll be yeah... jumping anyway. Looks like they're joining me.

"Ello, ello, ello! What's all this then?" In this week's economy comedy podcast, Paul & Eli play as Cops & Robbers in a shabby, confusing race through the streets of London... Kinda! It's another Gannon's Golden Games segment as they get to grips with the classic chase game "Scotland Yard". There is also a bumper edition of Silverman's Platter which contains an energy saving anthem, a sickly ballad sung by a green duck, a monkey calypso and an 80s Saturday Morning TV show's crack at the music charts.
