This was recorded on an island near Seattle Washington.
Thanks to Eyvind Kang (Beck, Marc Ribot) for adding some viola and violin.

This tune was conceived while I was living in a haunted mansion near Vancouver.
I had a huge recording area in the basement that I rented and wrote a lot of tunes.
I didn't see any ghosts but they were apparently there. I think they decided to leave me alone...I was already haunted..any more would of been overkill.
I got together with Pete Droge a little later and we tweaked the song and recorded it.
What you hear is what we came up with at Pete's studio.

My parents took me to see the Beach Boys when i was 7. There is a little influence in this number... :)

LOVE (Havard, Crozier, Quintana)

"Out of mind, out of state, feeling empty, can't relate without LOVE...I aint got much!"

We were rehearing songs up for the recording of my debut CD "Vol.1" and we started jamming on three chords. In the room were my good friend Charlie Quintana (drums), my old buddy Neil Sutherland (organ), guitarist Mike Crozier and myself (guitar/vocals). 
We had just gotten over some tragic circumstances and were back after a layoff preparing for the studio. 

Three chords started strumming and Charlie broke into a heavy beat that I can only described as inspired Koto like drumming! I stepped up to the microphone knowing only that the song would have a chorus "Love, Love Love" . 
I let my heart channel the verses and whatever came out came out. It proved to be a very amazing musical experience and we decided to record it for the record. 

Fast forward to the studio.... 
Finally in the studio after a long day of tracking we had time to record one more song ('Love'). 
We had to get it done quick because bassist Doug Elliott had to catch a ride out of town to another gig. 
Engineer Lee Preston got the tape machine cued up and after a breif discussion with the band we started to record. 

We broke into the song and it was inspired and full of passion. I stepped up to the mic and just sang whatever came out of my head..it was an amazing experience and some great stuff came out. 
I was facing Charlie with my guitar and we locked in. It felt like an out of body experience. 
We rocked through the song and came into a discussed (unrehearsed) break down and from there it gradually built into a full force rock out. 

It was going great and it felt like this could of been one of those amazing one take experiences. 
We drove the song home and ended the take with a crushing slam...wow was that ever cool!! 
The song went on for 8 minutes maybe more...unfortunately the tape didn't! Yes..we ran out of tape!! Well now what? We didn't have any tape left! 
We made a decission to go over some unused takes and fired up the engine again. 

Again we rocked out and I stepped up to the mic not knowing what the hell i was going to sing. 
It didn't matter though we were going for it here and I was just letting it out..no thinking necessary. 
This turned out to be a great take and it clocked in around 9 minutes. It was really fun to just let the chips fall where they may and let the moment carry the outcome. We had 5 inspired musicians rocking out in a room all at once and it was one of the most fun musical moments in my life. 

We editted the song down (thanks Darren Grahn)....9 minutes was a little long. 
Most of the lyrics and vocal take you hear are from the actual live studio performance. 
I had to over dub and rewrite a line in the bridge because what I did sing live was a little too out of contol...and out too lunch!! 

The late great Robbie King added some amazing Hammond organ (another story unto itself).
Steven Drake mixed it....thanks guys!!

Love was in the room working with some really great guys doing something we all love to do. 
It was like we were 17 years old again rocking in our first band..way too much fun!

STAR..I could fall asleep at night as a rock n roll star?
My take on the rock n' roll dream.
I grew up in Northern Alberta and when I was a kid I wanted to be a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman, then I wanted to be a pro hockey player for the Edmonton Oilers...when all this fell through I went with something a little more realistic with dreams of being a rock star!
I loved everything about music, bands, recording..you name it. I grew up with my older brothers band rehearsing in our concrete basement. It must of drove the neighbours crazy.   I have had great support from my folks but one day my dad said he should of bought them (my brother and I) hammers instead of guitars. Its hard to make a go of music and tough to make a buck and survive. I use that line from my Dad in this song.

There is some Bowie, Clash, Kiss influence in this song amongst others artist.
I hope you enjoy it. Thanks to my family, friends and fans for all your  support over the years. I'll keep it going as long as I can!

PS..thans to Social Distortion/Bob Dylan drummer Charlie Quintana for driving this track on the drums.  A perfect punk pop drum track.
