The New York City born duo, BLAKTAI, made up of Blak Emoji & Whitney Tai met in the spring of 2017, realizing the potential of their musical collaborations. Their plan was to see how much music they could compose and record within the span of a month. Through this experiment, their hypnotic, downtempo sound was born. Impose Magazine calls their 2018 debut single 'Skin' "enveloping", "enticing"; that the duo's "dynamic creates harmony- both musical and human." Alan Sparhawk of Low writes that BLAKTAI’s version of his song “All Night“ soars to new heights and horizons.” After years of contributing to each other's solo projects, Tai and Emoji reunited in 2023 via live shows at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC and sold out shows at LA's Hotel Cafe. BLAKTAI flirts with trip-hop, electro-funk, indie rock, pop and jazz. Consider BLAKTAI your goth Eurythmics.
