@soma electro sub-label, Avoidant Records assemble a fresh rogue squadron for another massive compilation as 16 electro warriors take on the ‘Dark Planet’.

After the impact of last year's huge ‘Defend Your Planet’ VA, Avoidant immediately set about recruiting another incredible group of artists that represent the Glasgow based label’s output.
‘Dark Planet’ brings together established, classic and up and coming producers who take their cues from the Detroit and European schools of electro. Gathered from across the planet - from Australia, Holland, the USA and UK - the compilation sound is geared up for the dancefloor.

The breaks influenced ‘Wish You’d Leave’ from Three Faces Of Eve opens with a dark and ominous vibe before the legendary DJ Godfather drops a stripped, funk laced bomb on ‘It’s Only Detroit’. The UK’s Steve Allman takes things ‘Next Level’ with some straight up twisted and aggressive beats as Dutch wizard Versalife leans on more sci-fi elements with his ‘Shift Levels’. Having already appeared on a previous label VA, another Dutch connection in the form of Helsmoortel delivers some heavy rocking old skool vibes as a more emotive approach is taken by Flug on ‘Just You’. Assembler Code steps up for Avoidant once more with some hyper production skills on the mutant bass styled ‘Architects’. Detroit’s own Blaktony means business with the direct and funktional ‘Produkt’ before The Exaltics bring things down with the deep and sweeping ‘One Direct Line’. The enigmatic VRIL sets up the back end of the compilation nicely with his signature sound soaking up snappy percussive beats. Huge bass waves direct from The Lord Of the Isles on ‘Approach & Identify’ glide across dubbed out percussion and effective melodies. PARAND’s ‘Archangel’ is a dark and gnarly bass driven affair while Australia’s own 88756 makes your ‘Fine Dining Experience’ a rather forbidding one.

The compilation will be released on digital platforms on 22nd November this year, with a four track vinyl sampler to follow in early 2022 featuring a vinyl only exclusive Dub Mix of Flug’s contribution to the release.

Detroit techno pioneer Jay DENHAM is celebrating 25 years' anniversary since the release of the epic In'Sync EP by Transmat sub-label Fragile under the moniker Fade II Black. This all-time classic is re-released by his label Black Nation Records along with the remix by the BN artists Billy Johnston and Gennaro Mastrantonio.
 
1990, Detroit. Decaying atmosphere of the collapsed industry, obscure deserted streets, and discarded buildings. Yet, we can still hear the echo of machinery of the abandoned auto plants. The city is looking for its new identity. Techno community welcomes its new members. Creativity is galvanizing. From the ruins of the white pride emerges a black power generator. White nights, ramen noodles diet, gospel voice of Tramaine Hawkins and the energy of the mutual inspiration - a struggling artist Jay Denham is about to sense the future. Derrick May recognizes the rising talent and invites him to join the launch of his label Fragile. It's time for Fade II Black Advent.
 
Denham's futuristic vision and particular, ahead-of-its-time sound, gave the world In'Sync 12', which also featured the tracks "Insistent Rhythm" and "The Calling". "Revolution", - predicts Anthony "Shake" Shakir. "Man, that's scary!" - acclaim the Octave One brothers. The EP got in rotation on radio stations and instantly became a dancefloor hit at clubs.
 
In'Sync has been keeping up the rhythm of the future from thereon - tracks were sampled and played all over the world by dj's and artists, such as Carl Cox, Keith Suckling and Daft Punk.
 
Today the timeless record is still avant-garde, considered the classic of the genre and will definitely stay inspirational for the future 25 years.

The word 'Icosahedrite' refers to the geometric figure icosahedron, and arises from the idea that the EP is an amalgam of electronic music styles with many other aspects of traditional musical genres, like jazz or blues. Metaphorically, those genres act as the multiple sides of an imaginary icosahedron. Something complex yet solid that sits outside of the conventional emerges as the final result.

@planetedetroit presents ‘Mother’, a four track EP from Slum Village co-founder, former Bling47 label boss and current head of the Dirt Tech Reck label, @waajeed. The Detroit native has worked previously with Theo Parrish, Mad Mike Banks and Amp Fiddler, and in 2017 held a residency at Detroit Love parties across the globe.

‘Mother’, featuring Detroit singer-songwriter Steffanie Christi'an, is driven by an arpeggiated synth lead above shuffling percussion and heartfelt vocals, whilst ‘Earth’, a collaboration with the enigmatic Blaktony, takes a moodier turn with stripped back drums and syncopated keys. ‘Obba’ rides a melodic bassline into the cosmos, whilst ‘Frances’ offers a soothing dose of otherworldly disco funk.

Additional mixing on the EP was provided by Planet E head Carl Craig. 

Waajeed premieres his live show at Movement Festival in Detroit on May 26th 2018, at the Detroit Love stage.
