Since 2014, Codex Empire has built an international reputation for dark and intense techno productions and live shows. 

Mahk Rumbae - the British born, Vienna based producer behind Codex Empire - has been creating challenging experimental electronic music for more than 30 years working as one half of industrial/experimental band Konstruktivists as well as a number of varied solo and side-projects. 
combining this background in dark electronic music with heavy rhythmic elements makes Codex Empire an intense and simultaneously danceable experience both live and on record. 

Codex Empire has performed over 100 live shows across Europe, Japan, Korea and Canada, as well as numerous appearances in Berlin at Berghain, Tresor, Arena Club, Suicide Circus and Boiler Room. 

After releasing several well received EPs on aufnahme + wiedergabe, HORO, Sacred Court and Khemia Records, as well as numerous remixes and appearances on V/A compilations, Codex Empire released his full-length debut album ‘Slow Erosion’ in February 2019 on aufnahme + wiedergabe. This was followed by ‘Protected by Rage’ and ‘Broken by Fear’ in 2020. The latest EP release “Overneed” was released late 2023 on Rant & Rave. 2024 will bring both a new LP and EP and several new remixes.

For the 161st edition of the SYNOID Podcast, @hybral takes us back to our last Weekeder in October through layered and evolving soundscapes in their opening set. Hybral begins with deep, rolling sub-frequencies and adds textured percussion and dystopian atmospheres, creating intricate details that unfold over time. "For me, it’s all about the progression—the journey of crafting a mood and setting the tone for the night."

This set reflects Hybral’s love for opening sets, where the gradual progression from ambient, slower raw techno, and broken beats builds toward the intense energy of industrial sounds. The focus is on tension—not as simple build-and-release, but as an unrelenting, hypnotic rise that plays with the audience’s expectations. „I enjoy playing with the audience’s expectation of release, withholding it while the intensity continues to rise. It creates an obsessive and controlling energy, a subtle power play between the DJ and the audience. "
