Follow the Drinking Gourd supposedly encodes escape instructions and a map. The "drinking gourd" refers to the hollowed out gourd used by slaves (and other rural Americans) as a water dipper. 

The song's directions enabled fleeing slaves to make their way north from Mobile, Alabama to the Ohio River.

Death is a topic that we deal with on a daily basis. We all have our own ways of coping with loss. I hope that to those who are dealing with grief at the moment are choosing healthy ways to get through it. Grief can pull us down a dark path of self-pity, guilt, shame and more. Remember to find the things to be grateful for; the good memories, the chance to know what love(brotherly, motherly, fatherly, sisterly, intimate, etc) felt like. The pain never really leaves, but it does get easier as time marches on. There are days when we get hit hard with a reminder of that pain, and other days where we are at peace.

If you have made it this far into 32 Weeks...I consider you fam! A lot has transpired in my life since the last video. Ironic part is 9/28/23 we lay to rest my friend. The sadness comes and goes, and then I listen to this track and I remember my guy is no longer having to fight and struggle. I know he chilling right now, probably checking my joints out to make sure I keep going. If you are reading this, and no one has told you that they love you today...just know that I DO! #32weeks

Welcome to Side B of #32weeks! As a reminder to those who been rolling with me so far(and to the new customers 😉) we are now in phase 3 of the 4 parts. This phase's topics/feelings/concepts involve:

This week's track explores the issues of infidelity to a degree, just pointing out my mistakes as a significant other. Jay-Z brings this up on 4:44; "Kill Jayz".  I also went through my own phase of not knowing how to lean into the love that my partner was offering me. Taking the relationship for granted. Just not giving her my all. I made so many dumb moves, mostly out of attention seeking, not loving myself, and distracted in the worst ways. Eric Benet replied to Jay's track with a tweet: "Hey yo #Jayz! Just so ya know, I got the baddest girl in the world as my wife....like right now! ✌🏾" To his point, my use of the couple is the idea that my wife IS the baddest, and most beneficial part of my life! Having this attitude and perspective allowed me to open up more and truly give her the love she deserves! (Don't get it twisted, still fall short daily, but still progressing). 
After highlighting the wifey, we go in with bars...I hope you dig 'em.
My favorite run of lines is the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball bars.

There is so much I want to say about this verse...I have no idea where to start. When I wrote this one, it was a challenge...I wasn't sure which direction to go after a certain point. I made it to "Rappy Mason" and was lost. Then I switched the flow and found new inspiration. I am not going to lie to you, I never got deep into West Coast Hip-Hop. I always respected the craft, and was around friends who would play Nipsey. my best friend actually was one of the first ones to introduce me to him years ago. Lowkey, Nip reminds me ( appearance) of my friend. When I learned about his business endeavors and all that he wanted to do for his family, and community, building his brand, making a company, etc,  I couldn't ignore him. Same with Dolph! I actually know some amazing artists that did a track with him hellas ago. I never got deep in his music, but I respect his hustle to make his own label, and growing his brand. So when I say on the verse "Rest in peace to Nipsey Hustle, Rest in peace Young Dolph, tryin' be a young Boss/B-L-A-M-E-SOCIETY, if you ain't with me, go get lost..." I meant that. - The way the beat drops out too, makes this my favorite line!
I hope you pick up on the Kanye references. I know it seems weird, but Pusha, as you know, featured on "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasies" heavy. So even though you see the imagery of Kanye's project, I still consider it homage to Push as well(visuals on YOUTUBE)**Link below**

💙💙💙Today (11/8/23) was thinking about my friend a lot. Tearing up and what not. It still feels unreal. I wish he was physically right here so I could show him how much this music is growing, how much work is getting done, how much people love his vocal presence on a track, and honestly I wish I could dap him up, give him a hug, and tell him I love him and that everything will work out. Instead I have whisper to myself (I know he hears me) that the Marathon continues. ~ LLP💙💙💙

Greetings to all those that are still riding with me through this journey. This Week Cato shares his proposal story. It's got drama, suspense, and more. But in a quick summary, I had been in Columbia, Mo for a job interview as I was planning on transferring from St. Louis. During that weekend Erin knew I was going to propose, but didn't know when. We had went to dinner and I purposely refused to be that cliché. The next day, I asked her via text to meet me at Martin Luther King Memorial Garden. I blindfolded her, walked to the setup. The Line about "a recipe" is true thing. Erin hates cooking, but is so good. She prefers baking and is amazing. Anyway, the recipe was a poem, "A recipe for a Good Relationship". I was so sweaty! I knew she was going to say Yes, but the nerves were still shaky. I think that its dope that I proposed over 10 years ago, now I get to write about it, and share it. It's a blessing that I am grateful for. - Cato
