Blank Cassettes started as a recording project by James Woods in South Wales in 2017. It is a welcome retreat away from a world where unrealistic pressures and expectations are part of an everyday life fuelled by social media, comparison and growing mental health issues.

The project is influenced by all those who have made and recorded their own music themselves at home or in makeshift studios and is a celebration of all those doing things their own way with whatever equipment they have to hand.

Influences range from Mac Demarco, The Beatles and 60's music, lofi champions such as Ariel Pink and Guided By Voices, early Tame Impala and Bandcamp artists such as Be Cool Cowboy.

The album title is a nod to terraforming where a planets atmosphere is changed to accommodate life. Sometimes it can be hard to create and find your own happiness in the modern world where everything moves so fast and there is pressure to get a good job, look a certain way, behave a certain way etc... The tracks are escapist in nature and look at the impact modern life and technology are having on the world and peoples mental health with an eye on what the future might look like.

The album was recorded on a 7 year old budget laptop with a cheap interface and equipment. Hopefully it will send a message that anyone can have a go and put some music out even if they don't think they are good enough because everyone is more than good enough.
