Nadia Struiwigh joins for DifferentSound Podcast #171.

Nadia Struiwigh is all about energy and when she plays. Her own energy, that which she gets off the crowd, and the energy of any given space are what determine where she goes. She likes to get people into a bubble and keep them there; to play to the weirdos in the dark corners of a room and thread together emo sounds that connect with people’s everyday emotions. Whether that’s with techno, ambient or experimental is hard to say, because it all depends on what she feels at any given time. For as long as she can remember, Nadia’s head has been lost in music, floating on melodies, analysing sound and trying to understand why it has such a profound impact on us. She felt it was her calling to take it to the next level. “Life is like a melody to me, a harmony. I really can’t express myself with words so music is my main language,” she says. This approach has already given rise to two albums – Lenticular on Central Processing Unit in 2017, and WHRRu on Denovali in 2018, and Pax Aurora in 2021. Next to this, her experiments in sound healing continue, and her work with Tibetan singing bowls is soon to make its way into her live shows. Right now, then, Nadia Struiwigh is one of the most fascinating voices in electronic music.

In October 2024, he followed up with Partial Pressure on the Parisian label De la… je l’espère, drawing inspiration from Dalton’s Law to blend minimal drum and bass, experimental textures, and introspective soundscapes."

After beginning the unveiling process for our 16th birthday lineup at the beginning of the month with the 4 deck master Ben Sims, we've moved our way through the cast of artists who'll be bringing the magic to our 30 hour celebration with techno pioneer Marcel Dettmann completing the bill yesterday. In all we've lined up 14 guests to play alongside our residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis although there will be one more surprise to come at the party itself.

As a perfect demonstration of exactly the type of thing that occurs when Dettmann is at the controls, we recorded his set from his last EC1 appearance back in August which is the perfect bang with which to present our 16th Birthday Weekend lineup in full...

After making quite a splash with the exquisitely crafted debut double album titled Één, the newly formed Dutch collective De Lichting is back for their second release named Twee - four carefully curated sides of vinyl covering a broad scale of the electronic spectrum from ambient to house, techno and more experimental forms. De Lichting is a project formed at the intersection of three key underground labels from Amsterdam namely Yield Records, Native Response and Working Titles with seven artists contributing to a genuinely sensitive and pure sound.
On the A-Side Eversines serves up a hypnotic rhythm over a balmy fog of atonal pads drifting by like a wisp of smoke dust. When you listen to the impact of the bending selection of both percussion and drum work that eventually turn into a polyrhythmic breakbeat, it’s like a thunderbolt from heaven. Remove one pattern at the wrong time and Verwar loses its intricacy; if not for the constant twinkle and slow crawl of atonal pads in the background, this cut wouldn't get you so thoroughly buzzed.
Anything that breaks from the norm and finds its own groove can surely only be a good thing, and when it comes to lack the aggression that characterizes so much of the genre, sticking instead to a kind of inky, yet sepia-toned sound that is amongst the most absorbing of album-oriented techno, you know you hit that ‘flabbergasted’ moment.

Following his highly praised album “Word Color” from last year, Gacha Bakradze offers up this stunning EP on Fever AM. “Monument” sees the Tbilisi based art- ist taking us on a refreshing, sublime journey over 4 pieces featuring his signature melodies, broken beats and striking sound design. Gacha pulls off a very well rounded EP here that works perfectly on headphones at home or on a sound system in the club.

This is also the first artist besides labelheads Mor Elian and Rhyw to appear on Fever AM, opening up a new phase for the label.
