Confidential Recipe debuts on Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects with the deep, tracky techno of the ‘What You Think EP’. 

Heading straight to the club is the titular ‘What You Think’, with 909 kits pulsating alongside a variety of considered samples and visceral effects, followed by ‘Drill’, a pummeling yet subdued onslaught of FM tones and crisp hi-hats. 

‘Grain’ drives delayed vocal chops to the centre of the brain, as modulating synths flicker around relentless drum patterns. Hypnotic textures and smooth, fluttery pads take charge on ‘See You’ before ‘Body (Detroit Feeling Mix)’ adds a quirky flair to the release with its Dance Mania inspired samples, melody, and stabs.

Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave displays his knack for A&R by recruiting the Venezuela born, Colombia based Confidential Recipe, who has delivered a dose of high quality, heads-down techno artillery for the hard-hitting sister label to Rekids.

Openminded record label and global party series, HE.SHE.THEY. is releasing Blankson’s second EP digitally on Friday 4th June. 

Entitled ‘Wraith’, the EP contains two of the up and coming producer’s early productions which he spent the 2020 lockdowns revisiting. It follows Blankson’s debut, ‘Fela’s Groove’ which came out last year on his 51-53 imprint. 

Inspired by the months he spent living in Berlin back in 2014, the title track, ‘Wraith’ is a haunting, no nonsense techno cut that’s reminiscent of 2010s SunkLo, and made for the dancefloor. The B side, ‘It’s Just A Feeling’ is just as haunting, with a more melodic appeal for those leaning towards techno’s emotional side, though it’s still fit for the dancefloor.

'Doolska' is an amalgamation of Polska (Poland) and Mrs. Dulska, the infamous character from the 20th century Polish play by Gabriela Zapolska, ‘Moralność Pani Dulskiej’ (The Morality of Mrs. Dulska). The EP is a protest to Poland’s religious hypocrisy and often negative treatment of the LGBTQ+ community, action for which Avtomat has been attacked, denigrated, and even locked up for. Released on Friday 17th September, this is a UK first from Avtomat.

One of Warsaw’s foremost LGBTQ+ music makers, and a stalwart of its scene, Avtomat, has released his first EP with 51-53 the queer-focused label that launched in early 2020.

‘Dzwoni Doopsko’ translates to ‘The Ass is Ringing’ with the EP a protest to Poland’s religious hypocrisy and often negative treatment of the LGBTQ+ community, action for which Avtomat has been attacked, denigrated and even locked up for.

“This EP is, again, a bit of a concept - I zoomed out the picture of what it means to be any kind of different in Poland and tried to compress it into this one, emblematic character, symbolising all the bigotry, hatred and sloppiness of the Polish right-wing, perpetuated by their hypocrisy and need to police everybody according to their own beliefs”.

Mathias Kaden returns to Rekids with four-track EP ‘Control Your Mind’, featuring a remix from Marcel Dettmann.

Previously appearing on Rekids in 2019 with his ‘Liberate Drums’ EP, Mathias Kaden makes his second appearance on Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards’ label with four original tracks of razor sharp material, as well as a remix from Berghain resident Dettmann.

‘Control Your Mind’ opens with the impeccably produced title track, an electro flecked roller. Featuring hypnotic synth work and subtle automated inflections, the cut effortlessly glides, peppered with the occasional titular vocal refrain from Sven Väth puncturing the groove. Shifting into 4/4 territory is ‘Conviction’, a restrained but stunningly effective track that makes full use of memorable off-beat synth stabs and shimmering 909 percussion to constantly drive the track forward.

On the flip, Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann turns up the heat with his remix of ‘Control Your Mind’. Filtering the vocals, the MDR and BAD MANNERS boss also delivers a resonant bassline that works in tandem with knocking percussion, as creeping pads morph and evolve over the duration of the track, creating a trippy and propulsive banger.

Classic dub techno aesthetics are front and centre in ‘Substance’, a track destined for the golden hours between late at night and early in the morning, while finishing the package in fine style, the digital only ‘Anticipation’ showcases Kaden’s skill in crafting a killer peak time track, adding a welcome bonus of yet another weapon for USBs worldwide.
