Having money while having nothing at the start of your production career (career wise, connections wise) isn't starting from nothing. Having financial backing plus talent plus belief plus great attitude can fast track one's career over the person who has no money. The person with money can get the equipment they need faster, which gets them perfecting their sound faster. The person with money can get themselves into more networking events (and they cost money) which gives them more chances to build and change their life! Given that talent, attitude, and belief are equal, money fast tracks a lot of things regarding a career in production.
