Like any good party, there's an after-party. What, you didn't think we'd keep it going? C'mon. We began this one with Jacques Renault's Sky Islands, a full-length album that sought to achieve euphoric disco delight within a wonky conceptual framework; it's his late-night live DJ sets in spirit, organized like a 70s or 80s vinyl megamix or public-access radio program, but comprised solely of a couple dozen originals he crafted in the studio, most of them being wrapped up during the summer and fall of last year. Of course, we realized delivering such an experience, where no “song” is more than about 90 seconds, would do nothing for the working DJ, unless the working DJ is looking to nod off for thirty or take an extended bathroom break. Thus, Coast to Coast, a 12-inch that collects seven of the songs from the LP—in full-ength, special-disco-mix, club-ready form.

This EP will be followed by more long-form cuts, as well as additional goodies. There will be an after-party for the after-party.

Afraid of heights

Quatorze recordings is back with a stellar delicious compilation entitled "Mango Smoothy".

The perfect tracks for an endless summer breeze, salty textures, shiny & well tanned, hitting that sweet spot between uplifting, dreamy & euphoric grooves.

Title track "Mango smoothy" delivers a long consistent almost non evolving intro, until the surprise of funky melodic riffs & pads swell into Trumpets & Saxophones expressing an endless dance in pure simplicity & precise musicianship.

"Surf your eyes" eludes to dreamy pads & a Bass-line tied to those morning after-hours, when dancers are purely relying on the groove's persistence into the sunrise, in order to soak the sun & go directly surfing.

"Red Flip" The switch to wake up into full euphoria, but with a nostalgic romantic melancholy, driving lucid textures & a stunning melodic journey from the beginning to the end while emphasising the signature Low frequencies to uplift the dance.

"Back to it" The deepest track in the Ep, pure ear candy for deep house lovers, & a full satiating meal for the lovers of Sam's signature sound.

"Trip to Zanzibar" Closing B side, calmly wrapping up the album, through jazzy minimalistic pads, & the state of art simplicity of percussive elements.

Before his death in 1982, Patrick Cowley produced some of the American gay underground's most thrilling dance music, from chart-topping disco to radical club tracks. In recent years, San Francisco record label Dark Entries has devoted itself to released Cowley's lost art, from porn soundtracks to original albums and erotic journals. 

As the label celebrates what would have been his 69th birthday with a new compilation, DJ Mag discovers how Cowley is finally being recognised as an icon. Meanwhile, Dark Entries' Josh Cheon serves up a 69 minute mix of his biggest and boldest tracks
