This is my solo debut, released in 2000. I recorded ten songs with Michael Philip Wojewoda (Barebaked Ladies, Rheostatics) co-producing with Jeremy Darby (Lou Reed). Ron Sexsmith, Craig Northey, Mia Sheard, Arlene Bishop and Suzie Vinnick all appear as guest vocalists.

I Don't Know

This is my second solo (post-Jitters) album, recorded in Vancouver, Canada, with the Odds, one of my all-time favourite bands backing me up (along with Simon Kendall on Hammond organ and various other interesting keyboards). The beloved Danny Michel also makes an appearance (on "Happy Go Lucy"), and there's the tribute to the listener who sticks it out and leasts to the end of the disc ("Last"). The album, in retrospect, is a bit of a mid-life crisis collection, with wry, sometimes humorous looks at what could have been ("Could've Been King"; "The Opportunist"; "Little Fish", and so on ). And where else will you find a song about Bobby "Boris" Pickett, the writer/singer of "The Monster Mash"?

It is about deciding to be optimistic rather than just waiting for optimism to strike, like a bolt of lightning. The much-loved Paul Myers (San Francisco-based journalist/musician/songwriter)sang all the Brian Wilson-inspired harmonies based on his own arrangement.

"Proof" is about Blair's spiritual surrender: starting out as a grumpy complaint about organized religion (hey, rock 'n' roll, baby!)it is quite soon overcome with wonder at life, especially "the wonderous communion shared in music." "Proof" features the excellent Kevin Fox on cello and Jonathan Marks on violin.
