The Local Selection series returns to the techno capital of Ireland, Mullingar, as Mutate boss man Jay Carroll steps for an impressive 2 hour mix with an array of techno delights.

Jay began DJing at ripe age of 16 and by 18 he was asked to be resident at Disco Nouveau, a long running underground club night in his hometown of Mullingar. Fast forward a couple of years and he was invited to be resident at Twelfth Planet until he decided to begin his own journey as an independent promoter.

With a career spanning well over a deacde Jay has graced some of Irelands most iconic venues such as; Tripod, The Tivoli Theatre, The Twisted Pepper and more. The Twisted Pepper (now Wigwam) has been home to many of Jay’s show’s and provided cathartic techno experiences for many punters.

Since 2013 Mutate Events has been focused on bringing quality techno to Dublin with such artists as; Jeroen Search, Roman Lindau, Lewis Fautzi, Stefan Vincent, Abstract Division, Tensal, Abdulla Rashim, Tripeo, Mama Snake, Volvox, Amotik, Jamaica Suk, Rune Bagge, Héctor Oaks, Silent Servant, UVB, Charlton, RIVET along with many, many more. You get the jist…Jay most definitely knows what he’s at.

Working alongside and garnering support from some of the longest running nights Ireland has to offer such as Jamie Behan’s Bastardo Electrico, Subject, Life Festival & Research, he has given his all to promoting a vibrant underground scene for the capital. He has a bi-weekly radio show on Ireland’s number one online radio station, alongside his residents, UNTHINK, Corner, Exit the Void & Niall Cleary on Dublin Digital Radio, where he showcases the best upcoming talent Ireland’s techno scene has to offer. 

This mix offers a slice of what Jay is all about, an ensemble of techno of various sorts rolled into a warped two hour trip. Jay made a point of playing unreleased music from various Irish producers including Aero, Fyun, David O’neil, Offtrack and more. A smooth yet carnivorous trip around Jay’s back catalogue leaves the listener on the edge of their seat, unsure of what gnarly turn the mix might take next. This is the techno equivalent of a page turner novel.

Ksenia Kamikaza, the founder of UNDER festival and Platz Für Tanz
label, is the main moving force of rave culture in Latvia. Born in
Riga, but now based in Tbilisi, she’s spinning records in places like
Dommune in Tokyo to fabric in London, and losing herself in music and
dust at Burning Man project. Her style varies from Techno to Ambient,
from Industrial to IDM. Festivals and clubs like Khidi / Tbilisi,
Kater Blau / Berlin, Mutabor / Moscow are on her list for a long time.

A one-woman orchestra that has never failed to puzzle her
surroundings. Music creator, event promoter, radio hostess, traveler,
mother of two daughters and most importantly, a partygoer.

First mix I've recorded since January so it had to be at least 2 hours long. Lots of techno weaponry on this one, i think i managed around 40 odd tracks in total. Quick mixing, some fucking around two copies of tracks etc. Starts off with nice loopy techno then gets harder and faster as the mix goes on. Wee break in the middle with some electro/breaks then straight back in!

Sou um DJ de 25 anos de Utrecht, Holanda. Sou apaixonado por techno há quase uma década e comecei a explorar o gênero há mais de 2 anos como DJ. Durante minha jornada como DJ, comecei a amar o fast-paced e groovy techno. Especialmente em combinação com algumas melodias inspiradas no House. Nesse meu set quis conduzir as pessoas em uma espécie de transe, mas ainda assim mantê-las surpresas com tracks um pouco mais alegres e edificantes.

Para esta set, comecei mais despojado do que costumo fazer. Misturando faixas minimalistas para garantir um começo de sonho. Em algum lugar mais para o final, dou uma guinada para a música mais edificante, até incorporando algumas músicas de House. Como sempre, também usei algumas faixas de techno dos anos 00 (inspiradas). Usando esses diferentes tipos de faixas, meus sets mantêm energia por toda parte, realmente deixando o ouvinte em um bom flow, mas ainda os surpreendendo com algumas faixas inesperadas.

I'm a 25 year old DJ from Utrecht, The Netherlands. I've been in love with techno for almost a decade now and started to explore the genre more 2 years ago by DJ'ing. During my DJ trip, I've started to love the more pacey and groovy techno. Especially in combination with some House-inspired melodies. With my mixed, I want to get people in a sort of trance, but yet keep them surprised with somewhat more happy and uplifting tracks.

For this mix, I started off more stripped down than I normally do. Blending minimalistic tracks together to ensure a dreamy start. Somewhere more towards the end, I take a turn to the more uplifting music, even incorporating some House-tunes. As always, I also used some 00's (inspired) techno tracks. Using these different type of tracks, my sets maintain high energy throughout, really getting the listener in a good flow, but still surprises them with some unexpected tracks.

Manchester Based artist Concierge orchestrates just over an hours’ worth of carefully picked out Techno, an incandescent love for an extremely broad genre create a variety of moods, grooves and styles to explore. 

Concierge ultimately has refined his mix to the tracks with key elements that have captivated over his years spent collecting and playing live. This mix encompasses the sounds currently influencing his taste with rhythmic up-tempo grooves and a nod firmly towards the 90s hardgroove sound.

DJing in his hometown of Belfast for close to 30 years, Blark AKA Blacky.  Seeing Carl Cox play at the legendary Vengeance raves in 1990s was where he first got bitten by the rave bug and hasn't looked back since. Some people say he’s actually been to more raves than Carl Cox has ;)

Alongside friend and fellow Cricky, they both started up the Cave nights in Belfast, bringing over acts like Pet Duo, Patrick DSP, Marco Bailey, Dan Ghenacia, Mark EG, James Ruskin to the city. It was through this the two started releasing music as Cave DJz, racking up almost 15 tracks to date. 

In more recent times, Blark has warmed up for some of the biggest names in techno and house played at festivals like Burning Man, Jika Jika, Life Festival, ifyouknow and AVA in Belfast. He’s also played in clubs all over Europe, including a lengthy stay in Ibiza, Griessmuehle in Berlin and Corsica Studios in London.
