A part of the very fabric of the UK techno scene, Dave Angel’s status as an erudite for electronic culture is not based upon hyperbole or smothered in exhausting superlatives but cemented in facts and encased in the endless memories of those who have lived, loved and danced to the astonishing output of music he has created over the years.

Born the son of a Jazz musician and elder brother to British hip-hop artist Monie Love, Dave’s path in music came to the fore during the explosion of the acid house scene in London back in the late 80’s. Hosting one of the zeitgeist shows of its time, Dave’s weekly broadcast on pirate radio station Phaze One saw him champion a new sound that was gradually captivating the youth of the country and which would later catapult him into the media spot light with notable publications like Mixmag, DJ Magazine and The Guardian all proclaiming Dave as a one of the major forces in the UK techno/acid house scene.

DJing formed a natural progression into the recording process and in 1989 after tinkering at home with a basic set-up of a keyboard and two tape decks Dave’s first attempts at production created a somewhat controversial remix of Eurhythmics ‘Sweet Dreams’, which Dave called his ‘Nightmare Mix’.

Nez Old School Jungle/Hardcore Mix

Started a new show on Ayeland and this was the first one broadcast at the start of Feb. 2 hours of new (and some old) techno for your pleasure. Even did a bit of talking from time to time, even though it makes me feel sick! I think I need to sort out the mic situation because it sounded a bit tinny, but other than that I'm happy enough. Enjoy!

Well folks, it's time for another mix in the series and for lucky number 13 we have Engineer! Portuguese born, but now calls Belfast his home - we're all fans of his. Last summer he had a massive gig back home in Portugal at Sound Waves Festival, and more recently, Engineer has been showing the crowd in Thompsons what he's got to offer. 

A regular face on the scene in around town, he's been getting noticed a lot more and we're happy to see that! For now though, check out this mix full of the good stuff.

My contribution to Ayeland Radio's broadcast that streamed from 1st March 2023 - 8th March 2023.

It’s somehow taken 14 shows but we’ve finally got a mix out from each of our residents on the podcast. You may know him as half of Cave DJz with partner in crime Blark or more recently as Crock but our last resident to do the honours for us is Cricky Lyttle. Not one to just mix one track into the other, Cricky is known for having a bit of fun behind the decks to inject a some excitement into the mix - whether it’s a bit of beat juggling, mixing on 3 or 4 decks or even a bit of scratching (some even say he uses a Reebok Classic!) - and this set has all of the above (minus the footwear!)
Mixed on 4 CDJs and a Xone 92 and not a sync button in sight, this mix is packed full of tasty fresh techno - so get your lugs wrapped around this for the next hour! Enjoy!

DJing in his hometown of Belfast for close to 25 years, Blark AKA Blacky.  Seeing Carl Cox play at the legendary Vengeance raves in 1990s was where he first got bitten by the rave bug and hasn't looked back since. Some people say he’s actually been to more raves than Carl Cox has ;)

Alongside friend and fellow DJ Crock, they both started up the Cave nights in Belfast, bringing over acts like Pet Duo, Patrick DSP, Marco Bailey, Mark EG, James Ruskin to the city. It was through this the two started releasing music as Cave DJz, racking up almost 15 tracks to date. 

In more recent times, Blark has warmed up for some of the biggest names in techno and played at festivals like Burning Man, Life Festival, and AVA in Belfast. He’s also played in clubs all over Europe, including a lengthy stay in Ibiza, Griessmuehle in Berlin and Corsica Studios in London.
