"The Roland 303 is a little silver box of electronics that accidentally produced the squelching sound that became the foundation of Acid House. Pioneered circa 1987 in Chicago, Acid House exploded around the world and that sound spread through electronic music creating myriad variants.

Fundamentally the 303 is instantly recognisable by its squelch sound. This squelch can be euphoric, hypnotic, joyous, uplifting, sad, dark, cheesy, silly, scary, ridiculous, psychedelic, beautiful and anthemic. This mix aims to showcase many of these shades of the squelch. It is not the greatest hits of the 303, nor is it a collection of wilfully obscure forgotten 303 jams, it's just simply a paean to the majesty and never ending sonic possibilities of the squelch. Joey Anderson remains committed to the deep rooted sensibilities of House music, it's very much in his DNA - drawing upon influences from the underground of New York city. Over the years he has released some of the most influential records in the genre - EP's on the likes of Latency, Syncrophone Recordings and Deconstruct - albums on the likes of Dekmantel and Avenue 66.

This month marks the release of a new album on Deeptrax.

His sound has always been cemented in a deep, philosophical energy. It's music as much for listening, ambience and mood as it is the dancefloor.

Over the years his music has gone on to reach critical acclaim and gained international recognition but it is his home city and the origins of the musical culture from which he draws strength, not the hype or social media circus.

Not one to dabble in eccentricities his music is stripped back, utilising uniquely programmed machinery to create delicate textures and weird dusty tones which often lead to a unique transcendence.

Joey is an artist we've been keen to feature in this series for a long time now and the result is just as special as we could have imagined...

This year at Diane's I needed to release some pent up Acid Mama energy after being held hostage by my work captors for a few days leading up to the campout. Don't be fooled by the first half hour- this recording is probably best enjoyed during intense workouts, at home dance parties while candy-flipping, or any time you need to work something out of your system, like I did that night. Very grateful to the Diane's crew for setting up such an incredible sound system and party in the woods once again, where I was able to create my own little sound vortex.

Plaid's techno is some of the most thoughtful out there, and the way
the British pair deliver it is often just as interesting. Take
Ed Handley and Andy Turner's latest album, Polymer, which came with its
own interactive web environment and encouraged us to think about the
role artificial substances play in our lives. Musically it was
a harder-edged mix of broken techno and heavy snares, but still offered
the sort of technicality and emotion that has always stood the Warp
duo apart.

In their mix for us they put all their many years of know-how into a
timeless selection of tense and engaging electronic sounds. It touches
on far-gazing and futuristic techno, melancholic ambient passages and
onto scintillatingly melodic IDM and twisted jungle. It's a real
rollercoaster from two jedis of the scene.
