Strange Interactions is a DJ/producer-duo, label and party based in Naarm co-founded by Margarita Bassova (RITA BASS) and Yang Chen (Yangos) in 2021.  

As a DJ-duo the pair have two aliases: Strange Interactions and Strange Attractions. As Strange Interactions they manoeuvre the darker side of underground electronic music ranging from drum and bass to dubstep, UK bass to IDM and all the dark and murky corners in-between. As Strange Attractions they play with lighter sounds they love, with a particularly affinity for left-field house, chubby electro and jazz. 

The label focuses on uplifting female and GNC acts in the music industry, giving creatives the space to share their creativity both locally and eventually globally. SI is also very interested in an artists intention behind their creation, and have a particular fondness for lifting artists who share a strong purpose whether it be sociopolitical, philosophical, personal or emotional. The first release on the label is set for May 5th this year.

Blend 017 - Strange Interactions

Different Shades is a Malaysian born, Melbourne based DJ. She is half of the Techno duo Concealed & is one of the minds working behind the Loading Error collective. Her sound varies in the realms of hypnotic and experimental, exploring the deeper sides of techno fused with unique twists of ambient, electro + other similar soundscapes.

Rejinald’s avid appreciation of a wide array of genres within the electronic music spectrum sprouted from producing hip-hop and boom bap as well as his love for collecting records. Since favouring the stylistic qualities of house and techno, the up and coming DJ has begun playing at local bars in and around Footscray and the West. Rejinald's sets are groove heavy with left field house and 90's techno being just some of what is explored throughout his mixes.

Makimo has been producing music since he was a lil snapper. Working on everything from Lo-fi dub to aquatic breaks and producing tracks for Melbourne brands OATS and Honey Fingers. Once co host of Melbourne club night Club Lock, held at iconic Melbourne club The Toff In Town, he  is now taking a break from his duties as club runner and focusing on his Producing, with an EP on the way.

Blend 006 - Makimo

Ambitious in elevating dance floors while also staying true to the selections he finds most enthralling, Olivér finds that blending genres is most exciting way to DJ.

Formulating the club night ‘Synesthetic’, with 5 other like minded friends last Summer, propelled his love the for darker and more leftfield forms of techno, house and electro.

This recording captures all of these elements and includes the likes of Subjected, Gene Hunt and Volruptus.

Blend 007 - Olivér

Frederick Sexton Heitia is a Melbourne based Techno DJ. He is one half of the duo Concealed which he started in 2017 with his close friend Anis Aziz. His style varies from the hypnotic, psychedelic and more atmospheric sides of Techno, usually on the heavier side with recurring dark undertones. 

He's supported artists such as Ansome, Cassegrain, Stephanie Sykes and Perc under his Concealed alias and Milton Bradley as Fredrick Sexton earlier this year.

Nat Salih is a Melbourne-based DJ specialising in the more leftfield sides of techno, electro and experimental dance music. Drawing inspiration from a plurality of mood-oriented genres, her sets seek to create a sense of narrative and complexity. Throughout the year, Nat has played at a number of local parties including Bunker, Club D’erange, omni, Outhouse and Praxis.

Recent addition to Melbourne’s club/party scene, emerging out of the inner-west, Gram explores  the dubby more left-field side of house. His fascination with groove-heavy bass lines and the percussive elements of a track leads the up ‘n’ comer to bounce between italo, afro and deep house.

Blend 011 - Gram

Groove driven house, dubbed out rhythms and oddball dance floor twisters characterise Vain’s sets which are informed by a love of sets which challenge and defy what a typical DJ set should sound like. 
Through their Vanity parties, Vain aims to push local talents and a signature groove driven house sound influenced by jazz-funk, hiphop and disco.
