Vanishing Standards III:
"The third installment of our bi-annual Vanishing Standards compilation series closes the year of our fifteenth anniversary. As usual, we wanted to have as many members of our extended family aboard as possible, as well as welcome new ones into it. Of course, they are in the company of Amek regulars, whom, whenever we could, we tried to inspire to work in new collaborations and configurations. The result is not only the shortest volume in the series but also the first one dominated by atmospheric, yet noisy, tracks that are punctuated with some unexpected heavy hitters."

Our initial dialog with Synthia was an adventurous creative endeavour that made us question whether machines could have a soul. This one definitely spoke her mind, and left a fascinating mark on both of us as a wondrous machine––––––woman, a marvelous piece of engineering, an entity trapped in a modular eternity.

Considering that neither of us had any previous contact with such a complex modular system such as EMS Synthi 100, we took a somewhat intuitive approach. This is a fairly raw glimpse of the first days spent in the studio.

A cinematic journey through tension, collapse, and release. Opening with the glitch-driven anticipation of Countdown, the EP fractures into distorted transmissions with Shattered Signals, before descending into the dark industrial breakdown of System Collapse. Closing track Afterlight drifts into ethereal ambience, leaving behind a surreal glow of hope. Blending Ambient, Experimental Electronic, IDM/Glitch, and Dubstep, Fragments of Tomorrow captures the sound of futures breaking apart — and the beauty found within the fragments.

Mats Erlandsson and Maria W Horn meet as Dufwa in heavy synthesis wielding insect field recordings sourced from the catalonian countryside.  Dufwa’s debut release, Fältinspelningar från Terres de l’Ebre (Field recordings from Terres de I’Ebre), defies the standard conception one might have about field recording music. By means of intricate digital processing, Dufwa scrapes the natural source-bonding from their collected insectoid recording and sonically stretches them on a continuum between drone, noise and generative music.
