As a multi-instrumentalist and electronic producer, Eric draws from a rich background of musical influences, honed over more than a decade of playing in various live bands, including his time as a drummer for a reincarnation of ‘TV Baby’ with members of ‘A.R.E. Weapons’ & ‘The Rapture’. His sound, talent and deep knowledge of the dance music landscape make this next edit a pure honor for us to be graced with.

Right here, right now, “One” is the name of the brand-new EP of master Guyd (FREEDL011) coming soon on the mighty Espacio Cielo. Featuring two originals – three if you consider the Original and the Dark mixes of “Time Lines” as different tracks – and two remixes made with love by Pyrame and Jesu Aparicio, the label honcho himself.

Owner of impeccable producing techniques allied with sharp creativity, Guyd fails big time in disappointing when it comes to combining darkness & groovy in order to deliver high-quality dance-floor-oriented cuts. Published on vital outlets such as Emerald & Doreen, Oberwave, Maleante, and Espacio itself, the catalogue of the France-based virtuoso is always a valuable source of proper Indie Dance/Dark Disco gems.

Premiered here, Jesu Aparicio’s take on the title track may provoke some surprise on those familiar only with his output as Parissior (SXDNS206). Leaving his EBM and Industrial influences aside, Jay came up with an alternative formula by combining Techno and Trance elements with heavy doses of progressiveness, the right amount of acid, and a pinch of Disco, resulting in a distinct sonority that is here to stay, maybe? Hopefully!

It was perilous by nature, fascinating by design. A beautiful link, stunning, sublime. The world kept on moving, the dance was on, where it would land, who knew. 
Turbo are arguably one of the most prolific record labels to have emerged since the millenium. The output is vast, varied and emphatic. Up next is Autarkic who recently released on Disco Halal. He is remixed by none other than Red Axes.

Foremost machine disco label Blindetonation is back with another brilliant package, this time offering six sizzling cuts from Lithuanian pair BlowEnder. On point remixes come from daWad&Mokic, Damon Jee and Demian. 

Erikas Kasparaitis and Aurimas Milešinas are BlowEnder, a pair first formed a year ago and who recently disbanded, so this is their first and last EP. And that is a shame, as it is a noteworthy one that really impresses over the course of the three fresh originals. 

Opening up in great style is ‘Drugs No Hugs’, a lithe and slithering disco track with big guitar riffs, gnarly bass and a whole ecosystem of cosmic synths as well as breathy vocals. Together it all adds up to a steamy brew that really gets under the skin.  Darker offering ‘The Pain’ is more menacing, with a brain frying lead synth line underpinning tripped out melodic fireworks. Twanging guitars and more of those dehumanised vocals add mood to the late night groove. Last of the originals is the snaking and punky ‘Daddy Was A Milkman’ with aloof and spacey vocals making for a laid-back and intoxicating brew of neo-disco steaminess. 

First to remix are daWad & Mokic, another great duo and one that releases their wares on Days of Being Wild and The Exquisite Pain. Their great version of ‘Drugs No Hugs’ is gritty and gauzy, with guitar textures offset by popping perc and droning synths that are heavy and mournful. 

French artist Damon Jee is a producer who can count everyone from Chloe to Daniel Avery as fans, and who has put out his rock infused electronica on Tora Tora, Definitive Recordings and Clouded amongst others. He has a blurred and twisted style that is clear in his naughty and mischievous take on ‘The Phase.’ It builds in circling, paranoid layers and has real slap in the hits that help drive it along.

Last but not least, Demian is an assured talent who has ties with Jenifer Cardini’s excellent Correspondant label. He goes in a totally different direction, with knackered house drums and heavenly pads making for a loose and raw track that will bring real euphoria to the ‘floor.  

This is a fascinating EP that covers plenty of ground and offers exciting new sounds for dark disco lovers everywhere.

Beyond The Struttopshere is a collaboration between Leo Strutt (Strutt Bros DJs) and Ben Chetwood (Flying Mojito Bros, Damian Lazarus’s Ancient Moons) aimed at channelling their considerable musical production experience and boundless love of cosmic dark disco. Riding on the success of their first EP, released on Gouranga in late 2020, the boys are back with a second offering on Mélopée Records. The first track, Replicants, delivers a pounding hambone bassline, bolstered by an unrelenting 303, spacey sitar stabs and a futuristic vocal sample. Celestial Drift, the second, is cosmic disco banger that draws on elements of progressive trance and driving Italo. It comes complete with nuanced percussion, a titillating arpeggiator line and an array of galactic synth melodies. Remix duties are provided by Mexican dark disco wizard, Roliva, and Mélopée stalwart, Camilo Sanjuan. Strap yourselves in for an interstellar ride Beyond The Struttosphere!
