March 2020 - I've never been to Detroit but there's something so evocative in the electronic music that came from there in the 90s that I almost feel like I have. I could be tuning into this mix driving down the freeway looking at the Detroit skyline as the sun begins to set.

March 2020 - On The Bridge
This is a collection of some interesting funky punk and new wave 7"s, most of them on small independent labels, with a DIY attitude. This is punk that never forgot about funk, they kept the groove, that wanted to dance, that added synths and drum machine. Some added dub production values too. But there is a darker mood here lurking in the music and still sounds relevant today to me.

March 2020 - What is it about those creatures? This track is heavily chopped up to get to a groove that keeps it locked with a killer bassline.

You Know (Creature Version)

March 2020 - In my mind I picture a windswept beach bar near Rimini in the off season. The sun is starting to set and a gentle breeze is blowing as the DJ dusts the sand from the turntables and sets the needle on the record. The locals propping up the bar get off their seats and start to sway. Things got emotional.

Session 006

April 2020 - Reggae continued to develop in the 80s to keep giving the dancehall some new flavours. As synthesisers and drum machines became more widely available these began to appear. Producers who were around earlier like Prince Jammy went for a harder digital sound. Although the beats were tougher, there were still the conscious lyrics and musical sensibility to add a deeper edge to the music.

June 2020 - This is a collection of bargain bin boogie, funk and disco 7"s, collected in bargain bins and charity stores. The world of funk, soul and disco is peppered with expensive rare records (no doubt the artists mostly see none of this money). So in these times of financial uncertainty it can be great to know you can still find some gems on the cheap. Expect a little vinyl crackle but some great party jams that will be hard to resist throwing some shapes.

July 2020 - Some of my first clubbing big experiences were of big techno parties such as Lost in London or Atomic Jam in Birmingham that booked some of the big Detroit techno DJs such as Rob Hood or Jeff Mills. The atmosphere at these parties could be electric and the music seemed completely alien. This is a tribute of sorts to those hazy times.
