San Francisco’s Dream Chimney officially began in 2018 but its genesis goes much further back. First an electronic music project in ‘97 while experimenting on demos and late-night college radio sessions. In 2000 Dream Chimney continued as a collaborative music platform known for its passionate music community. For over 20 years DC has been a knowledgeable source exposing and sharing exciting new music discoveries. The label was born with a focus on lo-fi Balearic, new age, dance, and synth pop, with releases from Sorcerer, Memorex and Po-One, and compilations that have included Vision of Panorama, Max Essa, Trujillo, Hatchback, Rollmottle, Faint Waves and more.
 
This summer Dream Chimney welcomes Cuerpo Docente to the roster, an instrumental trio from Santiago, Chile. Drawing from backgrounds in DJing, composition, production, and improvisation, they formed in 2018 playing full improv sets in experimental dance spaces in Santiago.  Inspired by the music of Herbie Hancock, Larry Heard, King Tubby, and The Rotating Assembly, their mutual interests coalesced into a synth-based, minimalist, restrained yet playful musical landscape. In 2021 they decided to self-produce an album of original compositions and improvisations edited in a style reminiscent of Can and Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew. The result is a kaleidoscopic album that boldly features jazz, funk, dance, dub, and a multitude of leftfield sonics.

In October of this year, Bliss Point was invited to host a takeover of @radio80000 to feature the sound of the label & party. The takeover featured hourlong mixes from six artists who have payed the Bliss Point party, released on the Bliss Point label, or both.

@koichisue rounded out the takeover with an hour of melodic club sounds.

DC Promo Tracks: Das Unkenduo "Fortifrogs"

First (hopefully of many!) "Jazz (We've Got)" radio show.

I've been wanting to do a show inspired by this idea for the longest while, just mining and digging back through jazz (+more) and hip hop with the art of sampling being a bridging link.

Recognising a sample in a song always felt like such a wonderful easter egg, and I've always found it fascinating how a song can be universally adored, with a small portion of it being loved so much that it would form the DNA of a new piece of music (for me to fall in love with too). The idea that there's this thread connecting artists and music transcending generations, backgrounds and genres is so utterly romantic to me.

Every episode will highlight (mainly) a jazz musician whose music I love, and I'll explore their sound and catalogue through hip hop productions that sampled their sound and recontextualized it to a new generation.

I'm hoping to develop this into a show where I can invite musicians and producers to chat more about the process of sampling as well as their fav samples/approaches to production. I'd also love to get this idea to a point where at the end of every show I can share an obscure jazz or funk track by an artist, and put an open call for producers to share their reworks/reimagining of the song to feature in the next episode. Would be cool for this to be a proper musical exchange!

But! That's for the future. For now I just want to share this 1st episode: an ode to one of my fav trumpet players, the legendary Freddie Hubbard. We'll hear some of his iconic pieces (specifically 'Red Clay') that spread through such a luminary career, retold through the music of A Tribe Called Quest, Charlotte Dos Santos, Gagle, Jack Wilkins, & Raekwon.

On Friday 8th September Morocco was struck by the strongest earthquake on record for over a century. Hitting the High Atlas mountains, around 70 kilometres southwest of Marrakesh, the 6.8 magnitude quake has killed over 3000 people and impacted the lives of over 300,000 more.

As a way to raise funds for families and communities impacted by the disaster, we’ve rallied friends together for ‘Tadamoun: A Compilation for Moroccan Earthquake Relief’.

Compiled in collaboration with Geneva-based DJ and producer Reda Saiarh, the release features 24 tracks contributed by artists from across Europe, including Anatolian Weapons, Romain FX, Justine Forever, Cornelius Doctor, Zaatar and more. Musically it travels across many sounds and styles too, from ambient electronica, trip hop and leftfield bass to chugging Italo, jackin’ new beat and trippy techno.

All proceeds will be split 50/50 between two charities who are helping to raise money for those affected and to rebuild communities that have been devastated: Atlas Kinder, a charity who supports abandoned children in Morocco, and Insaf, a non-profit organisation that protects and supports women and children.
