https://soundcloud.com/examine-archive announces its first physical release; the avant-garde double CD compilation VA-EXAMINE-ARCHIVE-INTERNATIONAL-SAMPLER, featuring 24 artists and a booklet with content from the artists themselves.

Ranging from abstract fast-paced rhythms and crumbling beats to biblical ambient tracks, the release is an experimental outcome of the label’s own research to the new age. In times of the current digital ephemerality, examine-archive tests and reproduces its own curatorial practice and research. The musical result of this showcases various developments and new interpretations in contemporary culture across the globe. 

The CD release comes with a small booklet, including visual content by the artists featured on the compilation. The recycled material is manually composed and is limited to 200 pieces.

The Leipzig-based https://soundcloud.com/vramdnb contributes to this research with the compelling drum&base track Hypnose on CD 01; an ominous and hypnotic production, which is perhaps a not-so-positive examination of the new age we are living in.

Sacred geometry, complex polyrhythms and clean sound design all collide in the work of Manchester outfit, Akkord.

With their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album charting high in XLR8R’s end of year list and receiving 9/10 and 4/5 in XLR8R and RA respectively, Akkord are not resting on their success, and are already planning their next assault with this new body of work.

HTH020 consists of four tracks of much darker, moodier sounds, pairing monumental low-end frequencies with surgically precise production. The whole EP is centred around clammy, ominous atmospheres, underpinned by stomping beats and descending basslines, placing greater emphasis on the space in-between, and textured over with a doomsday ambience.

The music that Akkord create never strays out of their own minimalistic and direct approach to techno, but from there, and beyond, they touch on an ever-evolving variety of styles, which gradually drive us in front of an overwhelming and riveting soundscape.

This mix is part of a live set at Paloma 30th of March this year.
The mix spans in different genres such as house, techno, electro sounds, dubby techno, tribal house, acid and brain dance, a deep selection for the heads and the groovers on the dance floor.

This was taken from a particularly nice Sunday morning after a long club night at Paloma in Berlin. The time when everyone needing intensity have gone home and those left are down to just vibe out. Magic!

Local Action is very proud to present Rushing 1621, the first EP from a transatlantic meeting of minds and styles from two of our favourite artists: Om Unit and James Bangura. 

Based in Bristol, Om Unit is a titan of UK soundsystem music, pulling footwork, hip-hop, jungle, bass, techno, breaks and more into wild new shapes across an illustrious 15-year plus career.

DC’s James Bangura meanwhile has emerged as one of the most exciting artists on America’s east coast, releasing solo heat on labels like Incienso and !K7 and regularly touring the world as part of the Black Rave Culture collective, drawing from regional club styles across the States. 

The EP’s title Rushing 1621 is a reference to both artists’ area codes, so UK-meets-US synergy is the name of the game here (and if you know Local Action, you probably already know that this sort of thing is our catnip). Garage, house, breaks and even moments that recall early ‘00s proto-dubstep and dub-techno are all present, but really, it’s both artists’ immaculate drums and flawless production that drives this thing. Some records just feel unimpeachable, and this is one.

The final crystallized droplet from DJ Deep Heat’s luminescent Age Of Aquarius EP, Hindsight is the journey track to end all journeys. A wildly emotive and uplifting trance ballad that ends our aquatic saga and simultaneously looks to the horizon with unbridled optimism. Our liquid memories of this new age become one as we are submerged in pure feelings of overwhelming nostalgia and bliss. Hindsight at once feels intimate and self reflective, whilst injecting pure dance energy with its driving beat, soaked in effervescent melodies and trance inducing vocals.

Hindsight is paired with an achingly beautiful and dreamlike remix from South-London’s saviour of downtempo Stone. We find ourselves washed onto placid shores as Stone takes Deep Heat’s original into new ethereal tides with this timeless re-imagining. The vocals echo in the distance, memories become mist, time evaporates into vapours that drift above the shallows.
