Last Ditch Legacy

This is the long awaited comeback of the gang of five - dscrd - to their first home - DEMENT3D. The story all started 2 years ago, in november 2011, when we first released the "Discordance EP" - a collection of 4 pieces of music that would boldly set the foundations to our label : it was our very first attempt at releasing a record, and we are still thankful today for the support and public we have come across at that time.

Since then, dscrd have successfully made a name for themselves, playing a number of countries and festivals, releasing some excellent music on Silicate Music or Stroboscopic Artefacts. If one could suppose they are reaching a certain kind of maturity and comfort, well this record says the exact opposite.

These four tracks are wildly imaginative, crossover and rebellious to the electronic music format dogma. This can only resonate with the titles they have chosen for the EP . If you have seen them live, you might have spotted the voices of Foucault or Watkins here and there... New specific sequencer software have been coded, legendary vintage bass guitar amps recorded, new ideas and equipment searched and destroyed: every dscrd record involves a breathtaking amount of research and creation.

This record, although still a short format, has been generated through an album composition process and should be listened as such.

London-based migrant, Ross Tones, makes music under the ever so pertinent moniker, Throwing Snow. Drawing influence from a vast array of genres, his production work possesses consistent and comforting warmth, while still glistening with a serene kind of steely coldness. After a series of acclaimed releases on labels like Local Action, Ho Tep, Sneaker Social Club and his own Snowfall imprint, Tones has since signed an exclusive solo album deal with Houndstooth, following the release of his collaborative project Snow Ghosts on the label in 2013/14.

The songs on Pathfinder are a route into a greater portion of work, giving a sense of what is to come. The overall sound palette and feelings portrayed are what matter, not genre, and the intention of Pathfinder is to be listened to on journeys. The track titles on the EP are meant to reflect the music itself, with lead single “The Tempest” building into sounds of a storm and “Pathfinder” evoking a tense and lost feeling before opening out into a clearing.

With this podcast we introduce Dubliner Ian McDonnell alias EOMAC to you, who also delivers our upcoming record KILLEKILL 012 which will be released in early April, 2013.
Ian is one half of LAKKER, who also released on Killekill (as well as on blueprint and many other labels), but also with his solo productions he has proven himself as one producer to watch. His sound design is extreme and unique. He creates dense atmospheres and fills them with subtle melodic elements, pushes them forward with heavy basslines and markable, definitely unconventional drum programming.
With club play by no less than Aphex Twin amongst others, EOMAC is a name that is on the verge of exploding onto the scene.
SPOOCK, his release for our label displays the wide range of styles EOMAC can combine, and so does this dj mix.

KILLEKILL PODCAST #14: EOMAC

A decade since his first productions as part of Pendle Coven, Miles Whittaker delivers his debut album proper for Modern Love. The intervening time has seen him forge a formidable reputation alongside Sean Canty as Demdike Stare, and with Andy Stott as Millie & Andrea, beside his operations in the hardware field as Suum Cuique, solo excursions as MLZ and shadowy involvement in the HATE project - all the while building upon his in-demand skills as a DJ of twenty odd years experience, accumulating and absorbing far flung knowledge of hardcore UK jungle, Chicago house, Motor City Soul, the obscure UK techno of labels like Radioactive Lamb and Irdial, Italian concrète, Synthwave and contemporary noise. Which brings us to 'Faint Hearted', the Burnley-bred, Berlin-based maestro's debut solo opus; eight entirely analogue constructions riding the wave from wormhole hardcore clatter ('Lebensform') to body-compressing subbass undulations ('Irreligious'), trekking through frayed techno minimalism ('Status Narcissism') to mind-drift ambient ('Sense Data') and what sounds like a Demdike Stare track constructed on a worksite ('Rejoice'). But if you ask us, the best bits occur right at the end, with the ominous bass, funereal strings and obliterated noise of 'Archaic Thought Pattern 1' or the field recording clangour of 'Queuing', and certainly the majestically gratifying yet subtly dystopian 9 minute closer 'Loran Dreams'. As an individual sonic statement, it's an evocative exposition of Miles’ love of electronic music in all its shapes, harnessing his fidgety production style into one expansive, restless set of tracks.

Queuing

An addendum of sorts to his recent 'Faint Hearted' album, Miles' returns with a half-hour EP more squarely aimed at the floor with four darkened, robust variants. 'Blatant Statement' is up first, slowly emerging from a rough alignment of metallic percussion and abrasive stabs not a million miles removed from the kind of racket you'd most likely associate with Vatican Shadow, before the almost-clipped rub of those super-warm bass stabs shifts the perspective to a different kind of environment altogether. 'Technocracy' delivers an oozing House deconstruction, slowed down and inebriated, while 'Infinite Jest' revolves around an industrial cacophony harnessed into a rhythmic anomaly situated somewhere between a technofied Pete Swanson and a sweaty Kassem Mosse. 'Plutocracy' ends the set with a bleached-out warehouse chug, slowed down and menacing, surrounded by a submerged choral arrangement and more of that toughened hammered-metal sound that runs through the EP.
