Morocco’s most respected ambassador for electronic music, Amine K, cues up a release that’s been some time in the making.  ‘Taran’ comes in two versions, offering up pure vibes for both the day and the night, and the seasoned artist, who has previously released for Sol Selectas, Get Physical and Akbal Music, dishes up his debut for BLOND:ISH’s ABRACADABRA label in fine style. Amine K gives us an insight into these wonderful brace of tracks… 

“I started the track some seven or eight years ago.  Back then, I really wanted to make something different, sexy and original and that would be appealing to a larger audience than what I was producing for back then. I ended up digging into different genres to see if I could crossover into them with my electronic music, and that’s how I found this dancehall reggaeton kind of vocal.  And I loved it!  However, I tried many times to get something out of it, but it just wasn’t the right.  Fast forward two years, and I finally had something that I thought was pretty cool, so I sent it to Viv and she started playing it, but we both knew the track could be better.  So, when the lockdown hit, I went back to my old tracks, but now having the knowledge and mastery of those past 10 years.  I ended up having a good idea of what I wanted to do, and I've finally achieved it, and I got two versions.  One is the Dr. Gonzo mix, which is more like day, uplifting and housey vibes, and the El Loko Mix which is more by night, and after-hours house vibes. Viv ended up liking both versions and here we are now :).”

A higher plain of consciousness is chartered during ‘Imbongi’, the new collaborative single between breakthrough Moroccan musical prodigy Jalal Ramdani, and UK afro house activist Mr. Silk. Featuring Africa’s majestic vocalist Lizwi, and with remixes by two afro house heavyweights, Enoo Napa and FNX OMAR, this compelling EP gets a long awaited release on BLOND:IDSH’s ABRACADABRA label.
 
The duo already released an infectious blockbuster last summer, “SESA”, that stole the show and was heavily supported by Keinemusik and Black Coffee.
 
The Imbongi, in African tradition, is a composer and orator of poems praising a lover, a chief or other
figureheads, and on this fresh production, positive musical magic is teased from every pore, as Jalal and Silk’s hypnotising production lets Lizwi’s vocal soar high above the transcendental groove. Speaking about the collaboration, Jalal divulges “Imbongi came about when myself and Silk were running afro-house events in London during the end of 2019, so the idea of a collaboration surfaced in between these events. The goal was to showcase a track where we blend the modern groove of house music with the traditional touches of our African heritage (I grew up in Marrakech, and Silk has African origins). We finally decided to materialise the project in my London studio in June 2020 during lockdown. It was done quickly, 3 to 4 days, as there were no distractions due to lockdown. The vocals are in Zulu language and portray a poet, the Imbongi, who recited all his love poems to his lady. We sent the original to Enoo and FNX, who gifted us with masterpiece remixes a month later.”
 
Remixes come courtesy of Enoo Napa, who has impressed via previous releases and mixes for Madoras, King Street Sounds and Go Deeva Records, and also a version from FNX OMAR, another Moroccan mastermind, whose credentials include remixes for Stereo Productions, Spinnin’ Deep and MoBlack Records.
 
Jalal Ramdani has also released music on Madoras, Connected and Moblack, amid this recent tour in Latin America/Art Basel, and upcoming performance in the legendary BPM festival.

'Losing My Religion' arrived back in April and took Samantha Loveridge to a whole new level. It was a captivating cover of the R.E.M. classic from the Sydney-based artist who has long had a huge passion for music. She has played across the world from Ibiza to the UK and while picking up high-profile support from tastemakers such as Black Coffee, Jimi Jules, and Rüfüs Du Sol she has also placed highly in the Beatport charts. Her collaborator here, singer Lizwi, last appeared on this label in early 2022 with a track alongside Kasango and Deep Narratives on Africa Gets Physical Vol. 4. She draws on her Zulu ancestral background and echos their spirituality in all she does. The beautiful 'Beka' is seven minutes of deeply immersive Afro house. The warm drums set a heavy rolling groove while the expressive vocals of Lizwi serve as a call to the dance floor that sends shivers down the spine. The liquid synth work and rolling percussion all enrich the track and ensure it makes a lasting emotional and physical impact.
