Beaver Moon  EP

This track was hand-made in one take with the TR-8 and TT-303 hardware.  
The title is a play on the original name of the device that is responsible for all of this  - "Rhythm Composer"...  
The new EP name gives props to the first machine, while offering a new take on the capabilities of the new related devices. 
This is a basic track - very simple and pure...

"Can a dance track unfold like a classical Japanese Noh theatre performance? El Gato # 9 challenges us to consider that notion with his track 'Ancient Pond'. One gets the feeling that this is the framework for a medieval Japanese ghost story. El Gato weaves this silken tapestry, utilizing a classic Japanese haiku, deconstructing its elements and mixing it with a solid bass-line and exotic instrumentation. 'Ancient Pond' and its remix both feature this supernatural sensibility, full of exotic and unpredictable moments. The original track introduces us to Matsuo Basho's haiku 'Furuike ya' ('Ancient Pond').  Textured waves and ghostly ambience, plus a set of twisted effects, all create a mysterious tension.  

The remix by LA/NYC-based producer, DJ Spun (Rong Music) transforms 'Ancient Pond' into a heavier and slightly slower version. Gone are the funky elements, replaced with hard-hitting beats and percussive layers. But the exoticism is still there, and just as vibrant. 

For good measure, El Gato takes us to his dystopian future in 'Electric Sheep' - a Philip K. Dick inspired lysergic acid ambient bath. Maybe you are the android listening to the wonderfully lush and intricate use of 303s. This is the mind-blowing analog framework for an upcoming release on Bloo Neko Recordings."

This particular Full Moon coincided with the Buck Moon and Lunar Eclipse, but the effect was a Blood Moon. Originally, the title of the E.P. was going to be Buck Moon, but the current one sounds better :)

01 - Buck Moon

This track was originally titled "Rhythm Performer" due its heavy use of the Roland tr-808 elements.  
The new tr-8 and updated 303 hardware held the foundation throughout most of this tune delivering a unique aspect with music creation - 'on-the-fly' manual modifications and analog frequency inclusions (Basically, the record button was pressed and all of the beats and 303 sounds were produced by hand in real-time.)

Some Native American tribes called the August Moon the “Sturgeon Moon” because they knew that the sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this Full Moon. 
They also called August’s Moon the “Full Green Corn Moon.” 
Different tribes used different Moon names. Other examples for August are: “Wheat Cut Moon” (San Ildefonso, and San Juan), 
“Moon When All Things Ripen” (Dakotah Sioux), and ”Blueberry Moon” (Ojibwe).

Since we are so close to Halloween, I picked a track that contained a spooky, ghost-like moan that "haunts" throughout most of this dark tune. 

Some moon names are tied to seasons, such as the Harvest and Hunter’s Moons. 
The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox. 
The Hunter’s Moon is the full moon after the Harvest Moon.

This track was "sitting on the shelf" for some time.  Later, a few acid bass treatments and warped melodies 
were added to the foundation.  Then, it as shelved again.  Finally, it's now presented here in this final chapter 
of the Full Moon E.P. series.

This is a live recording using just the Roland tr-8 and Basbot tt-303 hardware.  
All of the beat changes and 303 tweaks were performed manually and recorded in one take.  No multi-tracking 
or automation was conjured in the production of this track.  


= History of the Cold Moon / Manus machina =
The Full Moon for December 2018 rises on the 22nd — very near 
the winter solstice this year! 

In Native American cultures, December’s full Moon was known as 
the Full Cold Moon. It is fittingly associated with the month when the winter cold 
fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark.
This full Moon is also called the Long Nights Moon by some Native American tribes because 
it occurs near the winter solstice — the day with the least amount of daylight (duh!).  
This year, the Full Cold Moon reaches its peak just a day after the winter solstice, 
meaning it will appear full to the naked eye on the night of solstice. 
The last time the full Moon occurred exactly on the winter solstice was in 2010, 
but it won’t happen again until 2094!

"Manus" is the also Latin word for "hand". "Manes" in Roman religion, refers to the souls 
of the departed, particularly those who were morally ambiguous. In DS2, The Abyss brought 
forth Nashandra, Elana, Nadalia and Alsanna. They are the grandchildren of Manus.  

The New Latin term deus ex machina is a translation of a Greek phrase and means literally 
"a god from a machine." "Machine," in this case, refers to the crane that held a god over 
the stage in ancient Greek and Roman drama.
