We were told that this one sounds sorta like "Lady Gaga meets Tool".  As far as we are concerned, it's just a jam from our new record.

Possession

This one is pretty funky and swingin.  It's not about the beer but think whatever you want.  This is the 3rd track from our upcoming album, Mystic Machine.  Rob sings lead on this one, and Barry takes the vocal in the bridge.  

Corona

This song has been developing in our live sets for over three years now.  It was great to finally be able to put it on a record!  It is very haunting and personal to us, given the history of the band.  

Run Bobby Run

"and so it's how our tale begins"...I guarantee you haven't heard anything quite like this before.  

Icarus

This arrangement is brand new.  We have never played this song live before.  Featuring Brittany Wallman on the vocal harmonies.  Also listen for the string quartet - their playing is excellent and Barry arranged very cool string lines that answer Ryan's vocal phrases.  

How Far You've Come

A funky, pseudo-reggae feel with Rob on lead vocals.  On the surface, this is probably the most "conventional" tune on the record, and it's still very strange.  We wouldn't have it any other way :)

Amrita

Blood Root Mother is an eclectic rock sextet from central MN. The group has existed in a multitude of forms since 2003, and has collaborated with a plethora of artists, including John Lecompt (Evanescence), Phil Taylor (Future Leaders of the World), and Michael Hampton (Parliament Funkadelic). BRM began as a trio with founding member Robert Newton on guitar and voice.  Bass guitarist Bob Kanawyer joined in 2006, followed by vocalist and guitarist Ryan Gaskill. Drummer and composer Elliot Weiner has been with them since 2007.

Blood Root Mother lost their talented and charismatic guitar player, Tony Ellis, in 2009 when his life was tragically cut short. Tony's guitar sound was a defining element of their style, and when the group chose to continue, much of the old material was abandoned. They were eventually joined by keyboardist and singer Barry Costanzi and guitarist Andrew Persons to complete the current lineup. The fruit of this group's efforts, the album Mystic Machine, is scheduled to be released near the end of 2011.

The band stands apart from their peers in several ways. First, the varied personalities within the group pull the music in multiple directions, resulting in a synthesis of diverse styles, including: Blues, Pop, Funk, Progressive Rock, Electronic Music, Neoclassical, and Reggae. They are often rhythmically adventurous, incorporating ideas derived from Underground Metal, Jazz, Afro-Cuban, and Carnatic music. Despite the broad scope of stylistic influences, however, the group remains largely within the vein of English groups like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Black Sabbath, as well as American groups like The Doors, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, and Tool.

Their music features careful vocal arrangements from three distinct singers, Gaskill being the primary voice. These arrangements are integrated within unconventional song structures, in which aggressive, visceral musical passages are balanced with moments of minimalistic beauty. BRM records tend to follow a narrative structure - the experience of listening is akin to watching a film or dissolving into a surreal and vivid dream world. In live performance, the group's strong musicianship, powerful stage presence and interactive style contribute to an undeniably unique experience.  Indeed, BRM are truly becoming a gem of the Twin Cities independent music scene.
