- Piece Style: Remix of ‘Pretty Girl’ by Clairo
- Description: I created this remix for a friend’s birthday I was Djing.  He and I both like the original, but wanted something more upbeat we could all dance to and I offered to remix it. I started by downloading an mp3 of the original off the internet and importing it into FL Studio 20. The original song was written at 112 bpm and in a C Major scale.  For my remix I chose to increase the BPM to 145 bpm so as to add more energy to the track. As for the key of the track I didn't pitch the track and left it as a C Major track. I then took the sample and applied first an equalizer.  I used this equalizer to remove the kick of the original song as well as remove some of the highs in the original.  From there, I applied a small amount of reverb to this edited sample, as well as a compressor which was used to highlight the mid pitch of the song which was where Clairo’s voice was in the pitch range. Now that the original sample was sped up I decided to write in a bass pattern for my remix.  I wrote 2 different bass patterns, one for the intro and the bridge of the song and the other for the verses and the chorus.  These patterns were written in a C Major scale. Next I decided to add a snap to the beginning of the song which would fill the space that was left by the sample and the bass.I kept the snap simple with a   quarter note pattern accented by a cowbell that was written in a triplet pattern on top of the quarter note pattern. This combination along with the bass added more energy to the original intro of the sample.  From here I decided to add more drums to this sample to add on top of the second bass pattern I had written. To add some ‘bounce’ to the song I started by writing the high hats in as an eighth note straight pattern and then added sixteenth note stutters as well as a 4 note descend from C to G.  After my high hats had been layered on top of my bass I wrote in a kick pattern which matches the bass pattern to add an extra hit behind the bass which would accentuate it.  Lastly, I added the snare drum in a simple quarter note pattern.
