Both huge names in the progressive house genre, Alex O’Rion & Ezequiel Arias join forces for a debut on Meanwhile as the GMJ & Matter led imprint celebrates its 34th release with “Solis”. Two further solo tracks from Alex O’Rion complete the musical picture.

An artist at the centre of the underground dance scene for almost 20 years and with over 400 production credits to his name, Alex O’Rion has been a Meanwhile regular, most notably with his landmark four-track “Echium” EP in May 2021. A trio of remixes for Rich Curtis and GMJ & Matter themselves bookend a powerful portfolio on the label. Similarly, Ezequiel Arias has found himself at the vanguard of the modern progressive house movement with his standout work for a host of blue-chip imprints including Anjunadeep, Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making his Meanwhile debut, Arias joins forces with Alex O’Rion as the duo showcase “Solis”.

The headline track is thus a powerful reminder of the combined talent of the Dutch and Argentinean pairing as “Solis” powers forward with chest-thumping kick and sublime bassline groove. Clave percussive flourishes add a summery vibe to proceedings as a filtered synth line gradually comes to the fore, mirroring the bassline foundation. Gently evolving across the 6-minute piece, a free-flowing synth line wends its way across the melodic collage while a beatless breakdown creates the perfect opportunity for a variation in the cadenced chord progression. Hitting its stride once more in the second half, “Solis” is a timely reminder of the silky-smooth skills and unrivalled craftsmanship of the talented duo.

“Pluvia” sees Alex O’Rion back on solo duties as a chunky beat and swung offbeat hi-hats create the perfect environment for crackling effects and pitched synths to flow in sparkling patterns against a backdrop of white-noise risers. Evolving with ease, subtle melodies play off each other in fluid rivulets of sound. Metallic wind chimes echo in random patterns as a smorgasbord of sound effects give the sonic impression of falling rain in a sparking track.

The final piece finds “Sericum” proving an apposite title as a smooth-roasted bass groove sits below deep kick and cavernous sub-bass pattern. A shuffling hi-hat top line provides subtle urgency as a mellifluous synth line flows like honey as the track reaches its mid-point. A reverb-soaked lead line adds harmonic variation as a vibrant breakdown creates the perfect moment of reflection. The rhythmic melange once again hits its mark again in the second half, accompanied by the array of opulent melodic elements introduced earlier in the piece.

Following on from the February 2022 remixes, Meanwhile now returns to Alex O’Rion’s EP as “Echium Remixed, Pt. 2” continues with another trio of outstanding interpretations.

 

A legendary figure in the world of art, music and underground dance, Roger Martinez has been a central figure with his kaleidoscopic sound and spiritual influences. Music signed to Lost & Found, Replug and his own Higher States have confirmed this status while July 2020’s “Cosmic” was a further notable highlight on Meanwhile. Now returning to GMJ & Matter’s imprint, the Roger Martinez remix of “The Chase” is an uptempo offering that draws on his musical influences with a powerful beat and deep bass groove. Using pitched elements from Alex’s original, vocal cuts shift in stereo-panned glory and epic white-noise risers and infinite delays create a dense swirling atmosphere. Pausing at the breakdown to introduce additional melodic elements, the track then drops back into its hypnotic groove as new melodic motifs create the aptly titled “Interdimensional Remix”.

 

GMJ & Matter return to their flagship imprint with typical flair and aplomb. Able to point to a rich catalogue of original and remix work in both solo and collaborative guises throughout Meanwhile’s two-year reign at the top of the progressive house charts, the Melbourne based duo provide a powerful and dynamic rendition of the title track. GMJ & Matter have thus taken the effects fuelled “Echium” and transformed it into a dark seething progressive house monster that lurks beneath gently pulsing waves. Serene in its build, delayed synth phrases cascade over each other in endless delay while new melodies twinkle across the mid-range in trademark-soaked reverb and elegantly stratified sonic layers. Maintaining the aural themes sculpted by Alex O’Rion in the original, GMJ & Matter have successfully navigated a new and dynamic path through the beautiful “Echium”.

 

Imran Khan has cemented a reputation as one of the progressive house fraternity’s leading lights. Almost a double century of production credits has seen remix and original music land on the likes of Mango Alley, Proton Music and Clinique, since a 2016 debut for the latter. Moreover, 2021’s “Push Thru / Horizonz” and “Equinox” have delighted the Meanwhile faithful. Returning for a third remix, the Imran Khan reworking of “The Serpent” is a typically deep and atmospheric affair with huge thumping beat and cavernous bass groove dominating the low end. Capturing the flowing melodic phrasing of the original, pitched synths and pulsating white-noise risers create a thick soup of sound that evolves in bubbling sonic patterns with their origins in Alex O’Rion’s impressive production technique. The resulting marriage of two musical identities finds Imran Khan once again illustrating his impressive production credentials through trademark sound design.

Hitting the heights once more on their Meanwhile imprint, GMJ & Matter turn to the iconic figure of Navar for the label’s 38th release as he delivers his 3-track “Return of the Sun”.

A dazzling career that spans over a decade and a double century of releases, Navar has seen his music featured on the likes of Guy J’s Lost & Found, Cid Inc’s Replug and Eelke Kleijn’s Outside The Box Music.

Now returning to Meanwhile after his remix of Alex O’Rion’s “The Chase” in February 2022, the “Return of the Sun” title track is a compelling blend of rhythmic dynamism and trademark melodic prowess. Building over the course of its coruscating 9-minute voyage, elegant and flowing melodies drift atop a deep kick and shimmering hi-hats. Redolent in cascading delays, blissful warmth radiates through the sonic layers that pause briefly for breath at the two-thirds point, before picking up the pace in the latter stages in a work where new motifs enter the aural collage.

Opening with atmospheric pads and rippling effects, “Trips” slowly hits is stride with heavy beat and clicking percussive groove. A subtle and intelligent offering, delicate melodies play across the mid-range in syncopated delays while a seismic legato bassline pitches its way in lockstep with the rhythmic foundation. The result is a shimmering beauty that unexpectedly draws to a dramatic and vibrant conclusion with a new 16th note bassline groove in the final movement.
 
The aptly titled “Luminescence” concludes the triptych with a huge bassline groove and velvety synth line that scuds across the sonic landscape in stereo-panned glory. Stratified layers of sound make their play as twinkling keys and counterpoint motifs rise and fall in a beautifully woven tapestry. The result is the perfect juxtaposition of low-end vibrancy and majestic melodic touch that is a hallmark of the Navar production sound.

A long-time and much-loved cornerstone of Selador's extended family, we are delighted to welcome back the zeitgeist-surfing talent that is Just Her.

A regular on many era-defining labels (from Anjunadeep to Crosstown Rebels), we are especially proud that Just Her has entrusted us with what we consider to be her one of her most accomplished releases to date.

The two brand new originals on show pick up where last year's chart-topping 'Will We Ever Learn' left off. 'Upon the Horizon' once again seeing Claire herself on vocal duties, her sweetly melancholic delivery sitting atop a veritable chugger, all drenched in sumptuous melody. Whilst the breaks driven 'This Life', with its haunting piano refrain and clipped vocal snatches, sounds like a 90s breakbeat classic put through a 2022 electronica blender.

And as if that wasn't intoxicating enough, this fearsome threesome is completed by a remix we've had to sit on for a little while, but which has been causing maximum excitement at Selador HQ. Watergate Berlin resident DJ, Jamiie has been on our radar for some time, and the aforementioned 'Will We Ever Learn' seemed like a great fit for a Jamiie remix. And so it has proved, as she delivers a wonderfully atmospheric peak time version excursion set to be heard on all discerning floors for months to come.

PREMIERE: Da Luka & Aman Anand - Mythical Creatures (Original Mix)

A notable highlight in the Meanwhile production catalogue, Jamie Stevens provided a slice of sonic magic in mid-2022 with his “Circles” EP. Now revisiting the 3-track offering, a trio of remixes come from high-profile artists across three continents.

Hernan Cattaneo & Marcelo Vasami need little introduction to anyone with a passion for underground house. The Argentinean, a household name, regularly plays to audiences in the tens of thousands across South America and beyond, while his Sudbeat Music imprint is at the forefront of the electronic music scene. Widely known as “El Maestro”, Hernan’s reputation is assured. Similarly, Marcelo Vasami has been a renowned figure for over a decade with his music on the likes of Plattenbank, Afterglow, Replug and Sudbeat. Joining forces for their Meanwhile debut, the Hernan Cattaneo & Marcelo Vasami remix of “Stuck on a Feeling” immediately captures the light melodic eloquence of the original while adding a plethora of new production layers, not least in a sublime new bassline progression and crisp rolling percussive groove. Familiar refrains and the vocal so prominent in the original, come to the fore as textured and ethereal pads provide an enchanted moment in the final movement.

A growing force under his progressive house guise with releases on Lost & Found, Sudbeat Music and Mango Alley, Mike Rish has hit upon a formula for success since early work for UGENIUS. December 2021 provided the Melbourne resident with the opportunity to make his Mark on GMJ & Matter’s imprint as he released his impressive musical triptych, “Beyond”. Now returning for a debut remix, the Mike Rish reworking of “Storm Front” is characterised by a deep and chunky bass groove that sits perfectly within a popping, wood-block top-line with its roots firmly in Jamie Stevens’ original. Evolving with ease, smooth production elements from the Mike Rish studio make their presence felt before a richly sustained bassline assumes a prominent role in the second half to superb effect.

Navar has been at the forefront of the underground dance scene for more than 15 years with his imaginative approach and immaculately honed sound. 200 production credits are testament to that fact, for such esteemed imprints as Balance, microCastle and Guy J’s Lost & Found. November 2022’s “Return of the Sun” illuminated Meanwhile in late 2022 as the Dutch star returns for a second remix outing. Reworking the title track, the Navar interpretation is a sparkling jewel that transforms “Circles” into a glorious, arpeggio-laden offering that shimmers with delays and delicate rhythmic cadence in the early stages. Building imperceptibly with bass groove and vocal breaths from the original, it erupts at the mid-point with a driving beat that provides a spine-tingling dancefloor juxtaposition to the smooth melodic sequences, capturing the hypnotic character of Jamie’s work.

Three new remixes see Hernan Cattaneo & Marcelo Vasami, Mike Rish and Navar create another set of magic “Circles” for Jamie Stevens.

The latest release from Clubsonica Records finds Golan Zocher returning to the label for a new
single. Following a 2016 debut, the Tel Aviv resident quickly found his place amongst the genre’s elite, earning play and support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J
and Guy Mantzur. Releases via Mango Alley, Or Two Strangers, Plattenbank and Proton highlight what has been an eight-year creative swell for this elusive talent. Clubsonica has also
been a regular landing spot for Golan, with three originals and two remixes recorded since making his label debut in 2017. Now, following a contribution to the label’s Sampler, Vol.3
earlier this year, Golan returns to the Clubsonica with ‘Alive’, alongside remixes from Will DeKeizer and Dabeat.

Diversifying his portfolio further, ‘Alive’ finds Golan collaborating with vocalist Ojeni. Together the duo craft an emotive slice of progressive house that arrives in good time for the impending summer season. 

Golan’s warm key changing grooves, timeless tonal themes and lively
percussive arrangements set the perfect foundation for Ojeni’s memorable hooks to work their magic. She injects the piece with authentic soul and emotion, as Golan’s warm grooves and
subtle musicality provide the perfect dance floor vehicle to deliver the tracks transcendent message.

Making his label debut with the first interpretation of ‘Alive’ is Will DeKeizer. Hailing from the
USA, Will DeKeizer first emerged in 2021 with the success of ‘Karma’. Released via onedotsixtwo and played by Nick Warren, it set the course for what has been a remarkable two-year stretch. Armed with a sound that incorporates dark, hypnotic and melodic elements, Will
would go on to showcase his music via Deepwibe Underground, Plattenbank and Sudbeat, while earning the support of genre tastemakers Guy J, Guy Mantzur and Hernan Cattaneo.

Now, on the strength of a three-track showcase for Suza records, Will makes his Clubsonica debut with a cosmic take on ‘Alive’. Dark rebounding rhythms and warm key changing basslines set the course for snatches of fluttery effects and bright percussive clusters. A gorgeous contrast from the American artist and one which is explored further across an astral break. A haze of trailing effects dominates the cavernous interlude, building tension with each successive pass, before Will’s progressive attitude reveals itself during a commanding drop and groove-
centric finale.

The release concludes with Dabeat returning to the label with the second and final interpretation of ‘Alive’. Sitting as one of Colombia’s premiere progressive house talents, David Barragan aka Dabeat has enjoyed a steady rise since first emerging in 2008 with a release courtesy of Beatfreak Recordings. The next decade saw David perfect his craft with a sound that many describe as groovy, dynamic and emotional. Now laying claim to an impressive discography, the
Santiago de Cali resident has showcased his music via Anjunadeep, Mango Alley, Plattenbank, Proton, Replug and Sudbeat, while continuing to receive play and support from the genre’s
premiere tastemakers. 
As a regular contributor to Clubsonica, David has delivered five remixes across the last five years, which now lead him back to the label with an emotive take on ‘Alive’.

Smooth and rhythmic throughout, Dabeat aims squarely at a main room dancefloor here. Deconstructed vocals and wavy arps unite atop trance inducing rhythms and full rolling grooves.
Phasing motifs and precise percussion add tension leading into the main break, perfectly setting up the full vocal reveal. Ojeni’s soulful phrases emerge for moments of harmonic bliss, married beautifully against a backdrop of flickering arps, before getting washed away in a finale that is equal parts energetic and emotive. A gorgeous interpretation from Dabeat which rounds out an excellent single and label return for Golan Zocher.

Presenting their third release of the year, roku welcomes Blanka Barbara to the label for her debut EP. Born in Poland but now based in London, Blanka Barbara first emerged in 2020 with a series of releases via her Rabbit Records imprint. Quickly catching the attention of the progressive house and melodic techno communities, the next two years would see the classically trained pianist and composer go on to record projects for Lane 8’s This Never Happened, Ziger’s Eat My Hat Music, John OO Fleming’s Joof Aura, Mango Alley and Proton’s Particles. With 2023 projects for Juicebox Music and Balkan Connection already in the books, Blanka now adds roku to her resume with ‘Ever Closer’, alongside remixes from Danny Lloyd and Bondarev.

Destined to be a highlight in Blanka’s discography, it is the melodic stylings of ‘Ever Closer’ which get the release underway. Electrically charged from the outset, its rolling rhythmic structures, striking percussion and character rich groove set the piece on a course for aural enlightenment. Dark bass stabs and haunting overlays cleverly coax across the first act, elevating momentum and mood for a finale of colourful arps and hopeful sonics. The companion piece ‘Descending Into Heaven’ finds Blanka showcasing a deeper, more emotive side of her repertoire. The London resident masterfully marries blissful sonics and balmy effects over a framework of warm fluid grooves and precise percussive arrangements. Sitting at the heart of the piece is a reflective interlude, one where hopeful melodies unite in a whirlpool of textural euphoria, perfectly suited for those magical morning moments on the dancefloor. 

Making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Ever Closer’ is Danny Lloyd. With a career that spans the better part of two decades, Italian artist Danny Lloyd has etched his own unique place in progressive music history. Long a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo, the Tuscany resident has taken his smooth effortless sound to long standing imprints Asymmetric Recordings, MNL, Movement, Proton Music and more. Known for being choosy in his projects, Danny’s first production of 2023 finds the Italian artist making his roku debut with a hypnotic rendition of ‘Ever Closer’. Opting for a timeless approach, the Italian artist creates a distinctive interpretation in his inimitable style; with arpeggiated fragments and airy sonics uniting over a bed of thumping beats and pulsing basslines, casting a spell over the listener across a fluid first movement, before breaking out into a tastefully restrained and deeply meditative finale.

The release concludes with Bondarev making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Descending Into Heaven’. Russian artist Bondarev has been a DJ for the better part of two decades, sharing the stage with some of progressive music’s most iconic names, while operating as the booking manager for Saint Petersburg’s famed WARPP Club. As a producer, Bondarev first emerged in 2017 with a release via Crossings, a project which would lead to key discography credits courtesy of aboriginal, Mango Alley, Proton’s Particles and most recently via WARPP’s label, where he operates as the A&R. Now, presenting his first remix of 2023, Bondarev debuts on roku with a powerful take on ‘Descending Into Heaven’. Buoyant and energetic across the first movement, Bondarev continues his stylized ways with rippling grooves, flashing percussion and dark stabs creating a prophetic path into the main break. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space; childlike motifs and sweeping harmonies converge, rising out of calming atmospheres as the interlude evolves, eventually giving way to a thunderous drop and energetic final movement.

roku opens the new year with a fresh collaboration from label boss Da Luka and rising talent Electric Dada. Hailing from Albania, Da Luka emerged from his country’s electronic music landscape just over a decade ago. Whether operating in solo capacity or alongside occasional production partner Jorgio Kioris, Da Luka’s creative vision would summon the praise of progressive music tastemakers Cid Inc, Guy J, Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and more, in turn leading to releases via Droid9, Juicebox Music, Movement Recordings and WARPP. Choosing his projects wisely across 2023, the year would prove to be impactful for the Berat resident, with the formation and subsequent success of roku, along with key releases via Electronic Groove and Mango Alley. Meanwhile, made up of German artists Jan de Vice and JP Silence, the Electric Dada alias was revealed to the world in 2020. The duo's progressive style was immediately recognised for its emotive qualities and strong dancefloor sensibility. A transcendent sound which would see them go on to release key projects via Clubsonica, Dopamine White, Massive Harmony and Univack, while also earning praise from the underground's premiere tastemakers. Having been paired together once previously for a release via Electronic Groove, Da Luka and Electric Dada combine their extensive forces once again, getting 2024 off to a strong start with ‘Rubicon’, alongside remixes from Subandrio and Forty Cats.

Munich-based Plattenbank Records, led by Guy Mantzur, proudly presents the ninth installment of its best-selling compilation series. Known for his meticulous curation, Mantzur searched through numerous demos, selecting only those that have proven their impact on dance floors and festivals worldwide. This compilation features 11 tracks, offering over 80 minutes of expertly curated music, which has been kept secret until now.
