Relatively fresh to the scene Dan began his DJ career mid 2019. Despite the live music industry being practically cancelled due to the pandemic, Dan has been able to rack up a handful of impressive career highlights. Supporting the likes of Stace Cadet, T-Rek, Jordan Brando and Human Movement, as well as one of his biggest inspirations Loods.
Dan’s love for high energy piano house and disco house means his sets will get you out of your chair and onto the dance floor (finally). 
This is exactly the kind of energy you should expect to get from this 1 hour mix.

Daniel Dalton - The Bloom Selectors #001

Much like your beloved family feline, House Cat (AKA Lachlan Massey-Slee) will reel you in with his loveable charm but always leave you wanting more.
If you are reading this you have no doubt seen his name painted on many a line up, with an impressive resume including festivals and venues such as Falls Festival, Beyond the Valley, Revolver, the Third Day, New Guernica and Killing Time (and Bloom, obviously).
Coming from a musical background of playing guitar, drums and bass for 12 years, as well as producing for 6 and DJing for 5 it’s no surprise House Cat knows his shit.
Throughout this mix you will be reacquainted with the style you all know and love with an eclectic assortment of jackin, classic, deep and disco house.
We don’t need to tell you to enjoy... we already know you will.

If you’re into solid grooves and a good time Cooper James is your guy.
Originally from country VIC, Cooper took Geelong by storm with his eclectic taste and consistent mix of different genres. With a clear passion for the scene and love for creating a great energy for the crowd, it’s no surprise Cooper has managed to rack up a handful of impressive supporting gigs for artists such as Rebūke and Jordan Brando. As well as becoming a Bloom regular Cooper can also be seen playing Dr. Daytime events and Killing Time in melbourne.
A passionate producer Cooper is hoping to release some of his tunes in the near future, so keep an eye out!

Next up in the Bloom Selectors mix series we have Jazden Hooper.
Drawing inspiration from the UK minimal house scene, Jazden loves all things minimal and deep house, so much so he will soon be collaborating with Bloom Selector Cooper James to showcase other local producers and DJs (so watch this space!)
Jazden has played a number of impressive supporting gigs for big names such as Jozef Conor and Josh Butler as well as playing in venues locally and around Melbourne.
Big things to come from this local legend.

If you’ve ever set foot in any nightclub in Geelong you’ve no doubt had the pleasure of hearing a set from party legend Luke Hovey.

Having frequented Melbourne’s Revolver Sunday’s and playing gigs at Brown Alley, The Gasometer, Circus and Pawn & Co, it’s no surprise Luke Hovey is a crowd favourite.

Showcasing mostly a blend of techno and house, Luke tends to close events with a higher energy.

With more than a few impressive festivals on the resume such as Burning Man in the US and Sundancer Thailand, as well as tracks released through prestigious labels such as Ugenius, Euphorie Bezirk  and Upon Access, we feel privileged to be able to share with you a mix from DJ and producer Elliott Creed.

Elliott’s industry experience includes years of classical piano, event promotion and hosting as well as music production and DJing. 2021 has already been a huge year for Elliott, aside from a handful of successful releases Elliott has managed to launch his own brand in the form of Explorium.

While there’s a million other things to be said about this incredibly humble man, we'll leave it at that.

Elliott Creed - The Bloom Selectors #008

Fresh to the scene but truly in her own league, REN (Lauren Barber) makes a statement as our ninth DJ in this series. Despite many first gigs being postponed due to the pandemic, she has quickly proven herself as a unique and talented selector who has so far supported Rebuke and also became one of the first femme fatales to play at Geelong’s Beat Boutique, in between lockdowns. 

Most importantly, she hasn’t been afraid to go against the status quo and deliver her own style to the patrons of the Geelong music scene. Lauren has been positively influenced by creative and like-minded music lovers, but her unique flair is inspired by the UK scene and her love for breaks and drum and bass. 

We look forward to catching her play alongside big names such as Laura King and Skin on Skin when we open our dancefloors. In the meantime, prepare for an hour of pure, unbridled energy.

REN - The Bloom Selectors #009

Fresh to the Geelong scene, Sass (Susanka) came to our attention after submitting his application for the bloom dj competition through which we were blown away by his solid grooves and transitions through funky house and melodic progressive house. 

Performing an awesome first set at bloom in August, Sri Lankan born and bred, Sass derives musical inspiration and influence from other DJs from his home country including Dimuth K, Shiyam, Marius, Jayy Vibes and Van Luup.

We’re incredibly excited for the future of Sass’ DJ career and are proud to be presenting you with this one hour mix, making Sass the 10th Bloom Selectors addition.

Entering The Bloom Selectors 11th week with style we have Bendigo born and raised, Jootz (@oscar_mcconachy). 
Before joining us down here in Geelong, Jootz played at various venues such as the Prince Band Room in St Kilda as well as performing regularly for Daybreak events.
His music taste spans from love disco to techno and everything in between, Jootz draws his main inspiration from the likes of Rory Marshall, Rob Lewis and our very own Laura King.
 
Expect from this mix an hour of meticulously selected, expertly mixed tracks that’ll get you well and truly out of your seat.

With her roots in minimal & deep house, Mordi (Heidi Morris), is quickly becoming one of Geelong's most promising up-an-coming local DJ's. Her regular sets at Bloom have become some of the more talked about in recent times, with her signature blend of fun, groove house she is attracting the attention of bookers in Geelong and afar.

Gracing our ears this week we have everyone’s favourite local DJ and producer and the Bloom Selectors 13th entrant: Togar (Tory Garwood).

Togar can be seen playing anywhere and everywhere around Geelong and Melbourne and is most definitely the man we count on when we need a good boogie.

With releases on Melbourne’s Clipp.Art and French label Robsoul as well as a radio mix on CC Disco’s Rinse FM Show among many, many other achievements, it’s safe to say Togar is racking up one very impressive resume.

Wow, that was tough…
We had over 60 mixes submitted to our 2021 DJ competition and we listened to every. single. one.

Firstly, we would like to thank you all for your patience while we listened, sorted, listened and listened again, we knew this decision would be difficult but each and every one of your mixes was amazing in their own right. 
Secondly, the comp was judged mainly on music style and flow, in that order, so as great as these mixes were, in the end, it came down to what suited a headline set at bloom.
Lastly, the mixing skill, transitions and creativity in all your mixes were second to none. It has been fantastic to see how many passionate DJs are out there.

So without a further ado THE BLOOM 2021 DJ COMPETITION WINNER IS:

This mix was listened to about 8 times and it never got old. Throughout the mix LOKI. brings an underlining feel of classic house, while incorporating current deep house and minimal groove while rounding things off with tasteful hints of jazz.

You’ve seen her name on many a line up, you’ve seen her dancing around the streets and now you’re seeing her here as the Bloom Selectors fifteenth entrant Amitayus (Amy Rechenberg).

“High energy” is the phrase that comes to mind when Amy’s name is mentioned. Starting her love of music from an early age, Amy has had a hand in running events starting from huge house parties to raves and festivals including Secret Location in Canada. 

Having settled back in Geelong early 2021 you can expect to see so much more from this vivacious, high spirited artist.

Amitayus - The Bloom Selectors #015

DJing started as just a hobby, but quickly became an obsession for Zoe Nielson, our sixteenth DJ in the Bloom Selectors series. 

Drawing inspiration from the heady magic of the Market Stage, Zoe has made a name for herself playing regular sets at Falls Creek venues the Chophouse and The Man as well as local festivals Dancing Heads and Coastal Jam and warming up for Client Liaison back in 2019.

Her usual style combines emotive, melodic house with techno and tech/house, so you can expect an hour of high quality, beautifully selected tracks from Zoe.

Best defined by a sea of punters absolutely losing it, having to be literally forced out of the venue 20 minutes after lights were turned on and we were officially closed for the night.
