A diary to Ma’at. 

Ancient Egyptian goddess of balance, harmony, truth and justice. In this sense, Ma’at may also be considered the very personification of these qualities…embodying something perhaps much deeper and more universal than what is understood as a “goddess” archetype in modern times. It is said that when we die, the heaviness in our heart is weighed against her feather of truth. Ma’at is one of our most sacred spirits for the sign of Libra, ruling over our integrity and honesty.

I had mixed feelings about using an ancient artifact of Egypt for the artwork... but decided to do so, due to the immense incalculable influence of ancient Egypt on our World Culture. I do not wish to claim it as "my own" but simply to make reference, homage, and draw attention to this essence of our beautyful, vast, sacred history here on planet Earth.

This song is dedicated to Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, recorded on her birthday (May 27th, 2022). 2 + 7 = 9. It is also dedicated in memory of DMX, 1 + 8 = 9, a galactic center December Sun, and it was written during the time of his passing in 2021 (leading up to April 9), when I felt his spirit speaking to me. The beat was leased from Wyshmaster and included Lydia Caesar's beautyful hook, with some remixing by blosSsom. The views/message/lyrics are my own and are not intended to reflect the opinions or beliefs of any of the above artists. What we all have in common is being artists in this world we share, and I send my love, respect, and tribute to all involved (directly and indirectly).

I originally had another tribute to Lisa that I was hoping to record in time for her birthday, but because that song wasn't ready yet and was too important to rush, I recorded this one instead. It's a little raw, but from the heart...inspired by these times we live in. The lyrics already referenced Lisa's legacy (not to mention she is a big influence on everything I do. I especially love her song "Head to the Sky" ft. Natina Reed from her Supernova album. It is one of my favorite songs of all time. I also want to celebrate her good friend Natina's amazing legacy, who wrote much of Blaque's music). 

After just recently discovering that Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, and Timbaland recorded the majority of their songs from "One in a Million" not far from where I live, I also learned by chance during the making of this song that DMX served time in juvenile detention just a few more miles down the road in the late 80s, at age 15, after escaping from Valhalla, NY in the middle of winter. His mother convinced him to turn himself back in, and he was relocated nearby to where I now live. Land of the Haudenosaunee Cayuga and Seneca peoples. So the legend goes... If you understand the song title's reference, you will begin to understand the synchronicities at work here. The world is a mystical and magical place, call it god, call it math, call it nature, call it whatever.

Likewise, I am releasing this during the Gemini New Moon, at  9  degrees of Gemini, which is conjunct Lisa's natal Sun in astrology (just a few degrees away). So much more I could say... 

Last but not least, this song is dedicated to my love of Hip-Hop. Long live our legends.

Autonomia (Altar Nation) ,~.$.~  (((x O)))

This song is for Kelly Fraser. She is an Inuit musician, one of the greatest artists I have ever heard sing. And she left us one year ago. 

Because she wrote so many beautyful, powerful songs in my own language... I want to share a little bit of my challenging first attempts to learn hers, in its raw form, and allow myself to be openly vulnerable with the struggle to articulate words...since this is something demanded of artists every day, by the nature of our gifts (especially when translating and speaking across language barriers)...and yet we're expected to keep up a perfect image; and reveal no flaws, as if that is the goal of being human.

The song is also about my life, and the many friends I have had to say goodbye to. It is not my place to tell her story, and she has already done so with such grace, strength, and courage. So I am telling her (and you) my story. 

In my tradition, sound is among the most sacred elements of the Uni*Verse, and we are each keepers of sacred pieces (or keys) of the code. Meant to be reunited again someday. Like Kelly, I actually have Irish and Scottish ancestry myself, hence referencing the Book of Kells ("a book which turns darkness into light"). 

Without getting too deep into my spirituality, for those who don't follow, I am a channel of source code and often receive information and influence from beyond the realms of my limited consciousness. Much of this song came from a place inside me that doesn't belong wholly to me, which is why I want to share it with the world's people. It's hard to explain quite how much Kelly's work means to me, or why, but she touched my heart very deeply. And I believe in the future many people from all over the world will celebrate her.

I made this song to help process the grief I feel in her absence, and also to celebrate the incredibly profound gifts she gave to the Earth...and it was one of the most difficult songs I've ever put to words. I wish I didn't have to. My throat is closing back up on me just thinking about it. It was very hard almost just to make sound come out of my voice. I can only imagine what those closest to her have been through over the past year, and I hope my offering will be received/felt with the spirit of love and respect from which I make it. 

I'm very nervous about sharing it, to be honest, but I'm not sure if I have a choice. I wrote most of the lyrics on her 27th birthday this year (August 8th, 2020) and finished writing the song over this passed month. I recorded the vocal very late at night on December 24th, or early Christmas Morning depending on how you look at it. 

The Chi-Rho page of the Book of Kells, which is featured in the artwork for this song, is actually a representation of Christ's name in Greek: ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ, χριστός, or "christos" meaning 'an anointed one' (as in Christ*Mass, or Xmas, Chi resembles X and Rho is P). And this was the anniversary of Kelly's passing... Christmas Eve. 

I am not quite a Christian, but a Pagan who respects and honors all religions. This synchronicity may sound very deliberate on my part, but it wasn't so much. Synchronicity is in the nature of Spirit, and our code. Knowledge (in-formation) has a way of seeking me as much as I seek it.

I follow the threads I am given.

The music was remixed slightly from a beat called "Friend" produced by the artist: Foreign Made. I purchased the beat, from the artist, in late July (Leo Season), knowing that it would become something special but not yet having this tribute in mind.

This song is a song in protest of suicide. 

But not those who did it.

This song is dedicated to the many beautyful people we've lost to the War.

Words, recording, production, & music by blosSsom. Vocal recorded while the moon was in Cancer during my lunar return on January 26th/27th, and released for the Full Moon in Leo… January 28th, 2021. Lyrics are based upon the traditional song “You Are My Sunshine” in its many different folk and lullaby renditions. 

According to his family, this song was originally written in the early 1930s by Oliver Hood (July 30th, 1896 - March 11, 1959). It is said that the song originally had 20 verses, most now lost, which he first performed aloud out of a hotel window over a megaphone. I was inspired by the story of these lost verses to write my own in memory of loved ones who have passed away, and to remind us how treasured we each are. 

The second to last verse in this song is an homage to Oliver Hood, quoted from the chorus of his own protest song, “Somebody Stole My Sunshine Away” about the theft of this song’s authorship. I echo it here in hopes of honoring his legacy... while also alluding to a dear Love who is no longer with us, and whose light I miss every single day.

Trying to record a really important song at 6am (in "the evening") upon an out-of-tune busy instrumental, in between sips of ice water, with a parched stiff voice, super dry air, and a moody heart which is too upset by the lyrics to even sing calmly...has definitely convinced me that I can't wing everything.
