Studio One Archive - Vol. One - now in CD quality

Scientist - aka Hopeton Overton Brown - is a recording engineer and producer. 
He can take a lovely reggae song and twist it into a whole other science fiction dub universe. His bass textures alone are a thing of wonder - many remixers just turn up the bass but our man Scientist sculpts the sound into something completely new.
Here are some of his best dubs (IMHO), in collaboration with the rock-solid Roots Radics band, featuring Errol Flabba Holt on heavyweight bass and Style Scott (RIP) on drums.
I recommend the album Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of Vampires as a gateway to his music.
If it helps you to find them, the Greensleeves albums have been reissued by VP Records with the name of the producer, Junjo (Lawes) in place of Scientist's. Same music, but the original Greensleeves discs may have better sound quality. You decide!

'Eric Allan Dolphy Jr. (June 20, 1928 – June 29, 1964) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist and bandleader. 
Primarily an alto saxophonist, bass clarinetist, and flautist, Dolphy was one of several multi-instrumentalists to gain prominence during the same era. His use of the bass clarinet helped to establish the unconventional instrument within jazz. Dolphy extended the vocabulary and boundaries of the alto saxophone, and was among the earliest significant jazz flute soloists.'

Who was Eric Dolphy? Well.. he played with John Coltrane and Charles Mingus, and - in my opinion - his playing was more lyrical, more versatile and more exhilarating than both of them.
This compilation covers the period 1960-1964, when he was really coming into his own, both as a bandleader and as a collaborator.
Whilst touring Europe in 1964 his undiagnosed diabetes cause him to collapse and fall into a coma. Allegedly, the attending hospital physicians did not know Dolphy was a diabetic and assumed, based on a stereotype of jazz musicians, that he had overdosed on drugs. 
This is a compilation of my personal Dolphy favourites. I haven't included anything from Out To Lunch, still waiting for my brain to catch up with that.
