Following ‘Lost In Sound’, Fay Hallam’s acclaimed collaboration with The Bongolian, Fay returns to Blow Up Records for a new solo album ‘Corona’. 
 
Fay wrote the majority of the songs in a two day whirlwind writing session after returning from a tour of Italy, which ultimately inspired this atmospheric eclectic album. ‘Corona’ has absorbed Fay’s love for the Bossa Nova of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astrud Gilberto, the experimental productions of the Carpenters and the eclecticism of Beck. There’s even a nod to the 50’s pop of Frankie Laine with ‘Giving Myself Away’ and a sole cover: Paul McCartney’s classic ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ joins the new set of songs.

With thoughts still fresh of driving through the Alps and soaking up the ambience, the songs took on a reflective mood displaying a softer, more atmospheric side to Fay’s music. An almost nocturnal feel prevails at times, exemplified by album opener ‘Se mi Ami’, perfect for late night listening, whilst her love for Soul and Rhythm & Blues still shines through on songs such as ‘Let Me Into Your Soul’ and ‘Sunny’

Originally from Wolverhampton, vocalist and keyboard player Fay Hallam has performed over the years in acts such as Makin' Time (with a pre-The Charlatans Martin Blunt), The Prime Movers, Phaze and The Fay Hallam Trinity. She has worked with Billy Childish, Graham Day, Alan Crockford and other luminaries of the Medway Scene where she has lived for many years. She has toured the UK and Europe extensively.

CREDITS: ‘Corona’ was produced, recorded and arranged by Fay, with the accompaniment of her group of long time trusted musical collaborators for the performances. Recording took place over several months at various locations with additional production and mixing by Kev Feazey.

Baltic Fleet is the work of Warrington based artist Paul Fleming. Whilst on a World Tour playing keyboards for Echo and the Bunnymen Paul Fleming began to write what would come to be his debut album. With a laptop and any instruments that were to hand he would capture, in music, what inspired him in each city around the world; from Texas to Barcelona to Berlin to Copenhagen to Reykjavik and back to the UK in Brighton. In hotel rooms, tour buses, planes, at the end of radio sessions and sound-checks, every opportunity was taken and tracks gradually started to form into an album. A sound was born influenced by works from artists such as Eno, The Doves, NEU!, Sigur Ros and DJ Shadow.

Written, produced and performed by Paul, the self-titled debut Baltic Fleet album also features contributions from Simon Finley on drums, Will Sergeant on guitar and Pete Wilkinson on Bass. Released in 2008 the album was featured in Rough Trade Shop's Album Club, placed at No.29 in Rough Trade's Albums of 2008 and has been described as:

Last single The Riviera Affair gained strong support at 6 Music, being a Lunchtime Love and interviewed by Nemone and a Soccer AM Track Of The Week.

The Bongolian’s last live show was the sell-out Blow Up HMV Next Big Thing Show in February, and he’ll be live in London again for Blow Up’s Easter Special in April, with more UK and Europe dates this Summer.

Sicilian brothers Alessandro and Marco Barrano take a journey through space and time with a sound is characterized by vintage electronics: analogue keyboards, analogue drum machines, tape recorders, circuit bending and many homemade musical instruments. Influences range from Pierre Schaeffer and Musique concrète school in France in the early 40’s to the sci-fi nuances of 60s & 70s cinematic music, psychedelia and kosmische. Composer Marco Barrano is of course no stranger to Blow Up Records having previously released MHz Invasion as one half of Daiquiri Fantomas which received support at BBC 6 Music from DJs including Radcliff & Maconie and Steve Lamacq.

Baltic Fleet is the winner of the 2013 Liverpool GIT Awards (aka 'the Scouse Mercury Prize') and will now be performing on the opening night Of Yoko Ono's Meltdown at the SouthBank Centre, as well as the final night of Liverpool Sound City 2013. 


Frosklia - Baltic Fleet

Blow Up Records is a London based independent record label that was started in 1994 by Paul Tunkin, founder and promoter of the legendary Blow Up club (1993-present). The first release was a ltd 7" for Paul's band The Weekenders, which lead to releases for other acts and compilation albums. Music on the label ranges from 60s to New Wave, from Pop to Electronica; pretty much reflecting and complementing the sensibility of the Blow Up club.

The Blow Up label is responsible for compilations such as the ground-breaking "Exclusive Blend" music library series, 'Blow Up A-Go-Go: Dancefloor Classics' and several series of limited seven inches featuring bands from across Europe and the UK. Blow Up released the first Add N to X album as well as albums for recent acts such as Big Boss Man, The Bongolian, Baltic Fleet, Silvery, Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck, Neon Plastix, Alfa 9 and more reflecting the label's continuing eclectic output. Blow Up Records also have a publishing arm Blow Up Songs which publishes the majority of works that the label now releases. Blow Up are also the same team that promotes live concerts and clubs for the Metro Club on Oxford Street, London. (Please go to the venue myspace for bookings etc.) Blow Up also released 'Blow Up A-Go-Go: Dancefloor Classics' inconjunction with V2 Records in 1999.

2009: This June Silvery follow up last year's releases with their 5th single 'The Nishikado E.P.' and Sweden's Mockingbird, Wish Me Luckk release their second single 'Moves On The Screen'. Big Boss Man will be releasing their eagerly awaited 3rd album this Summer - stayed tuned for more details soon! 2008: 2008 has been the most release-packed year yet for Blow Up with several debuts including the Kraut Rock inspired Baltic Fleet (his self-titled debut No. 29 Rough Trade's Top 50 Albums of 2008 & in Piccadilly Records Top 100 Albums of 2008), London artrockers Silvery (album 'Thunderer & Excelsior' No.19 Artrocker's Albums of The Year 2008, a BBC 6Music Album of the Day and more) and indie-pop from Sweden's Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck ('Days Come And Go' album placed in one of the Top 4 Albums of 2008 lists in Sweden's national daily Sydsvenskan and described as "an album to pay attention to" by AllMusic). Big Boss Man's Nasser Bouzida also found time to release the third album by his alter-ego The Bongolian ("A Latin-flavoured jazz-funk odyssey" Q magazine) which has been winning fans worldwide.

2007: The ever prolific Mr. Bouzida has just finished mixing his third Bongolian album with Nick Terry (SMD, Klaxons, Libertines) so stay tuned for this release, and new signing Baltic Fleet who is currently mixing his debut with Nick too. Sticking with the album theme we are reissuing our 'Blow Up presents Exclusive Blend' series (a relief as some have been fetching up to £100 on eBay!), and nicely timed too as The KPM Allstars featured on Volumes 1 and 2 were chosen to perform at Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown this June.

2005-2006: Over the last couple of years the we've released several one-off singles for Swedish bands CDOASS and Strip Music, and UK acts Eight Legs and The Rifles (Blow Up 45 Series). We also released singles for Doncaster electro/pop group Neon Plastix and saw the Big Boss Man track 'Party 7' picked up for Nike's worldwide World Cup campaign. Their 2001 album 'Humanize' that this was taken from was previously used as the soundtrack for the 1999 short film 'Sweet' featuring the Mighty Boosh too (available for the first time this year). We also released the long-awaited follow-up to The Bongolian's first album in 2006 'Blueprint', as well as the debut album for new psychedelic signings Alfa 9 titled'Then We Begin' which was recorded with Liverpool based producer Mike Cave.
