This week’s SOLITUDE guest mix comes courtesy of Hollie Davies aka @blu_dnb / BLU  🦋

For someone that first got into drum & bass around 5 years ago, we were immediately impressed by her knowledge, passion and overall skill as a DJ - not to mention seeing her out and about at pretty much every decent event going 💃🕺

After hitting an @edrush & @deejayoptical night in 2016, Blu was taken back by the intricacy and precision they execute on the decks. Not long after, she managed to get hold of a beaten Numark controller from a friend and self-taught herself to mix, picking it up quickly and getting truly absorbed into the lifestyle. 

Building her confidence at house parties, Blu soon got booked for her first live event for @hexagon.london alongside @rieosky, @nvrsoft and more, and is now a regular selector for Hexagon. Not long after, she smashed a DJ competition for @cueratedsound just before COVID starting fucking us all up. But coronavirus didn’t stop her, with regular live streams for Hexagon at @studio808_, one for @skaankout and a handful for @heavysonics. Plus, once those sit down raves became a thing, Blu got booked for @engageaudio_dnb on the same bill as @lukelsb, @dogger, @quarush, and of course the founders of Engage: @fourpointsuk 🔥 

Then, back in June 1/3 of SOLITUDE flew out to Croatia for @noisetest festival and bumped into Blu at the airport pub at 6am (as you do) and got chatting about all things drum & bass. We saw her set out there and knew we had to get her on board for a guest mix. 

Blu’s mix progresses through a lot of styles, but it stands out with her preference of all things heavy. It’s techy, deep, minimal, and rolling. Think @flexoutaudio, @1985music, @dispatchrecordings_anttc1, @overviewmusic 🤖 

You can catch her helping @heavysonics raise money for @mindcharity at their “Mind Over Matter” event in August 28th at @thecastlelondon - It’s incredible when the underground music scene unite to help causes like this and we’re super proud of the fellow heads putting work in to help those around us who need some support. We all have those times, life isn’t easy. It’s REAL important to express ourselves and release through this music we all love. Remember we ALL go through difficulties and there’s always someone who is willing to help. You are NEVER alone in this big bad world we live in 🌎
