a few years back, scratch that, MANY years back, I was heavily influenced by artist such as Luomo, Rhythm Plate, Andrew Brooks, Brett Johnson, Miss Kitten, Freeform Five and The Freaks. ah, The FREAKS!! these artists made tracks that are pretty chill by today's standards, but were super edgy back then. tracks that seriously resonated with my dirty inner demons. 
fast forward many years (6 or 7 i guess, maybe more) and the work of those artists (and many more) have given rise to the filthy, dirty, grimey, rock house, electro, dubstep, drumstep, genre, genre, blah, blah, blah of today. i still dig it. and it still resonates with my dirty inner demons. 
this mix was my live set from House of Dub - Low FreaKuency Education back on August 27th, 2011 (with the addition of two tracks at the end to round out the blu mix), and the selection pays homage to the dirty pioneers of yesteryears. house, dubstep, drum 'n bass, and a few assorted break-beats and trip-hop tracks thrown in to mix it up even more. it was a fuuuun set for sure, and it doesn't hurt that a few hundred heads contributed to the vibe. thanks to all who were there with me! you know who you are, and know that you made my night!

this is the fourth mix i did in a series called "out of the blu", where all the mixes were done with very little pre-planning (impromptu). this one is a downtempo - midtempo mix and is probably my favorite one in the series.

ok, it's been a long ass time since i've done a studio mix. as in about 5 years. seriously! true to my old skool studio style I had to do it impromptu style. here it is, "out of the blu 7". this one is mostly a kinda, sorta, rather chill dubstep mix. hopefully the making of this mix cleared the cobwebs off of my dex, and thus, more mixes will soon follow. 

it's january 28. in colorado. and today was 70 degrees. you know what happens in colorado when it's 70 degrees in the middle of winter? skirts and sunglasses!

skirts and sunglasses - OOTB 7 - 1/2011

my name is bluchris. i've been djing for about 13 years now, but have been manipulating the musical experience of those around me since I got a panasonic boom box and package of blank tapes somewhere in the mid-80s. 
I began djing in the art bars and underground clubs of Portland, holding down many weekly and monthly residencies at such places as Saucebox, the 1201, Crush, Madame Butterfly, Tiger Bar, and Level. I currently live in Fort Collins and am the beat curator and resident friday night dj at luscious nectar where my sets travel through virtually every genre of music.
all of the older mixes listed here (pre 2008) were done with technics 1200s, a pioneer DJM-600 and regular old vinyl.
all of the newer mixes are also done on technics 1200s, and either a pioneer DJM-600 or a crappy Numark, but instead of just regular old vinyl, i'm using traktor scratch with traktor control vinyl.
