well, here we are.

after a long journey spent coping with sub par mental health and the various females inhabiting my high school, i've finally accomplished the thing i set out to do so long ago:

i put out a real album.

i hope that you all enjoy listening to this as much as i enjoyed creating it, because this whole thing has been an experience for me.

thank you for getting me so incredibly close to 10,000 soundcloud followers and thank you even more for taking the time to listen to what i've created here.

Quelque part dans les années 50, Un jack branché sur l’ampli hors d’âge d’un bluesman esseulé. Un câble qui s’est frayé un chemin à travers les décennies. Le fourreau craquelant par endroits, pas parce qu’il a dû affronter les effets dévastateurs du temps mais parce que, depuis sa racine blues, son contenu s’est épaissi de l’énergie du funk, amplifié de la puissance de la soul, énergisé au contact du hip hop, rendant de plus en plus difficile sa contention dans la gaine.
Influences et inspirations étendues comme le Delta, l’embouchure devient plus large que la source.
Car, explorateur, le câble ne s’est pas contenté de tracer sa route en ligne droite dans toutes les strates de la musique noire américaine, de les perforer une par une pour arriver aujourd’hui, porteur de tous ces fluides électriques. Il avait de la longueur derrière lui et de l’amplitude dans ses mouvements. Alors, il a voyagé dans les plaines et les horizons infinis de la folk. Est retourné dans les bouges mal famés descendre un ou deux shooters de tord-boyaux puis finir sa nuit dans des montées de rock sous acides pour, au petit matin, purger son âme au gospel et reprendre sa route en sifflotant une mélodie pop.
A son arrivée, en 2019, il s’était dédoublé. La connexion unique de départ se terminait en six fiches. Leon Newars en distribua une à chacun de ses sidemen afin qu’ils s’y branchent tous.
Ensemble en studio, sous la réalisation de Julien Grenier (Empire Of Sound), ils ont apprivoisé cette éruption musicale. L’ont façonnée comme assis sur les rives du Mississipi, on regarderait passer les steamers, en sculptant en rythme un morceau de bois, chaque lamelle détaillée devenant une histoire. Une déclaration d’amour au groove, une idylle contrariée, une inspiration venue des chaos de la vie quotidienne qui, parfois, secouent plus que d’autres.
Dix titres qui se sont expatriés en Suède, le temps d’une période de mixage assurée par Carl Granberg pour revenir conditionnés dans une caisse sans étiquette. Car la musique de Leon Newars n’en supporte aucune. Ou plutôt une seule, celle d’être clairement inclassable, hybride sur la forme mais toujours profondément blues dans le fond. UNBOXABLE.
