As summer comes to an end, I feel the urge to give some love to one of summer’s most delicious fruits (well, aren’t they all divine?) and one of my favourites too: watermelon.

This piece by Omid Safi is so tender yet so present and solid. It was one of the first pieces I read by him and I couldn’t be happier and more certain that this is the right choice as my first offering on Blue Glitter. Enjoy! Xoxo

Chapter 1 :: Mystery of Watermelons by Omid Safi

This year I've taken advantage of the evident 'surplus' of time on my hands and immersed myself in learning. I must have taken over 10 workshops.  Of course it was my Artist's Way year. I'm not sure what hasn't been said about it, Julia Cameron has revolutionized a lot of people's lives and of course I'm one of them. While I haven't really stuck to my artist date schedule, I'm currently going on month 6 of the morning pages and I doubt they'll ever leave me. 

The piece I'm sharing this week for Chapter 2 is the opening section of the second to last week for this workshop. Close to the end, when you're finally ready, or getting there, to accepting that you are in fact an artist. And that you can't run away from it anymore. That it comes with a price that is both an honor and liberating, that requires courage, vulnerability as well as a lot, a lot of self-love. It is an ode to being artist as well as a list of reminders as to why you will love following your true nature, all written with supreme presence and intention.

Chapter 2 :: Recovering a Sense of Autonomy by Julia Cameron

Last January a dear friend gifted me a book that was easy to read, comforting but hella straight-forward…..about love. Mhm, how do those things go together. Well, Don Miguel Ruiz’s writing style is exactly that, it’s magical realism plus your uncle-guide not beating around the bushes and giving you the perspective you just need, about heavy stuff…whether you’re ready for it or not. I was! I was! Finally!  Lockdown happened just a few weeks after receiving it so it didn’t take me long to devour it. I had read “The Four Agreements” a couple of years before which had been so impactful. 

Just like I’m feeling resistance for the colder season now, I felt such resistance about a book which was namely about LOVE. I don’t want to spoil it for you - and you should read it indeed - but the book is actually about self-respect and boundaries and detachment. #detachment for word of the year huh. 

In this week’s chapter I read for you and to you ‘The Magical Kitchen’ where Don Miguel and I claim that we all own a magical kitchen. Iinside our heart. And the pizza we make there is award-winning stuff.

Chapter 3 :: The Magical Kitchen by Don Miguel Ruiz

I don’t know about you but October’s been pretty intense energetically and emotionally so far for me. Might be the moon(s) or the planets or the unusualness of a year that seems like it’s made of the same month over and over. It happens, all good……and when it does, we shift. Every time. We refuse to wallow and surrender to resignation. Instead, I want to think that it’s another lesson in trust and surrender to what these ‘low’ moments usually mean.....the lowest point of the next phase/level/floor. We’re always going up. If we choose to stay present. That’s been the practice and it will always be. "How much can I trust????"

It might be taking a lot of energy but we gotta keep the eye on the prize….which is…..ourselves? Yes. Right.

Jeff Foster’s The Way of Rest was one of my main medicines during one of the hardest summers of my life. He writes simply and sublimely and this book is a literary hug, which a lot of us may need right now? Rhetorical…..but true.
I chose ‘The Sound of Distant Thunder’ because it chose me, it literally opened the book on itself and asked to be read….no.87, which is my magical number this year. Hence the trust, ya see.

Chapter 4 :: The Sound of Distant Thunder by Jeff Foster

It feels to me that unless you make space for something - or someone - better it is impossible for it to come through. No way it’s going to show up on top of what is already there, if that is based on some kind of sticky energy. 

There is a level of awareness that is needed in order for you to want something better and for you to know what you want anyway. When you have that, detaching from old patterns and situations might be slightly easier? I didn’t say easy, only ‘easier’. I feel you.

This poem by the supreme Maya Angelou came to me while pondering what I had to let go of the nth time I set my mind to do it this year. Because I want something different, who doesn’t these days? Who feels me?
In the poem, which she delivered in June 1995, at the 50th anniversary commemoration of the United Nations, WE can finally reach that point of knowing in our bones that we are what matters the most. All past conjectures, deeds, grips on things and situations can finally bow their heads to what is truly important. When we realise we’re both human and divine, when we truly see our beauty, our presence and that we all, in the end, want the same things, that’s when WE GET IT. Shed shed shed my friend.
