Fifteen years have passed since the release of the first and only ‘Demo Tracks’ compilation to date on Tresor Records. For this new commencement, we are proud to present three exceptional upcoming producers, selected amongst the various different paperboard envellopes and electronic communications received daily, here in the vault.

Acronym has been slowly and mysteriously instructing his sound over the last three years through his own Dimensional Exploration imprint out of Stockholm. With ‘Nabu’ he presents a dimension of his work so far only known to those who had the chance to hear him perform live.

Hailing from the northern Spanish surroundings of Bilbao, J.C. is a young producer whose work has surfaced on labels like Deeply Rooted or Greener. He also runs an eponymous record series and offers here a shaking number ‘CheNox’, keeping his ears riveted on the Berlin sound.

Last but far from least, Zadig is a producer who has been regularly catching our attention. Growing figure of the French and Parisian scene, his polished sound possesses many different facets. With ‘Panic’, Zadig looks back to some of the crudest moments of the Tresor catalog.

After the foundations for his new chapter of productions solidified, with Figure 53 welcoming him to the Figure camp, Cleric now continues to build on his raw yet sharp and accurately cut techno sound. This varied 4 tracker shows off the British producer's tastes for textural, ambient soundscapes and edgy broken beats, alongside pure and straight ahead club killers.

'Tentative' serves as a canvas for the EP to grow and take its form. From shadowy undertones, sound-system feedback and murky basement textures, a complex and visceral sound world is born. The steady punch of 'Sigmund' translates these textures into a 4/4 driven jam then, with Cleric's signature precise programming and reduced melodic elements leading us down an exciting and undulating path. 

Upping the pace one step further, 'Conflict' comes on strong in the most powerful track of the EP. Angry synth motifs swirl and build around a rock-solid platter of bass energy. Cleric keeps the action refined and dry in this must-have tool.

Finally the inventive broken beats of 'Wickerman' shatter the 4-to-the-floor template in a tense and tracky exploration into more challenging zones. Rough textural percussion clatters to great effect and drives this heavy stepper along perfectly.

One of the true masters of modern minimalism, and one of the central artists on Figure SPC, Dutch artist Jeroen Search is back! Over three exciting and urgent new tracks Search hones in his skills in programming and arrangement to create yet more exciting and unique club tools.

A refined and trippy journey into the cleaner, more funky end of the Techno spectrum, 'Magnus' works an airy, bleep-era riff atop snappy, tight drums and frenetic hat and ride elevations. Constantly lifting the energy, dropping it off with subtle tension, and bringing it back again, its a masterful example of the producer's talents.

Drifitng into more edgy zones, the darker and more sinister 'Renaissance' welcomes back Jeroen's jacking house influences, as this groovy 90s-vibed jam takes off. A rough and totally out-there synth riff emerges from the forward pushing percussion to take centre stage, creating a moment of wild abandon!

'Formalized' completes the EP with a more abstract trip into dark dance. Classic techno bleeps and pizzicato synth patterns revolve and hypnotize in this reduced and frankly killer slice of paranoid genius.

DVS1, aka Minneapolis-raised Zak Khutoretsky, will release a new Klockworks record on the 16th of July 2014. It will be his third outing on Ben Klock's label, following acclaimed records in both 2009 and 2011.

DVS1 is not just a techno DJ or producer, when the time is right his sets will gladly diverge into other styles to take the dancefloor where he sees fit, and his studio work too. 'Black Russian' sounds DVS1 like in house mode, as dub techno-inspired piano chords repeat to infinity, floating above padded kicks and moving hi-hats. This is one of the lightest tracks released under the DVS1 alias, but it's still equipped to create blissful ecstasy when played - a favourite closing track for both DVS1 and Ben Klock.

Flip over to the B-side and it's back to Zak's usual tone of dark techno, the style exhibited on his previous two Klockworks 12"s. The eerie bleeps and haunting atmospheres of 'Creeping' evolve for seven minutes, driven along by shuffling high-end percussion. It is understated and subtly arranged as a tool, the kind of track DJs rely on to keep momentum building with energy and elegance.

'Spying' is another prime example of DVS1's take on minimalism, it is stripped-down and makes the most of the fewest possible elements. 'Spying' cropped up in Ben Klock's Fabric mix last year, and has been been a staple in his DJ sets; for good reason, it embodies the deep pulse and light/dark contrast of all Klockworks output.

2014 has already provided three stellar DVS1 releases, two on his own label Hush and this. It's all evidence that this producer's work in the studio is now on par with his exceptional talent behind the decks, quite a prospect for fans new and old.

We have a very special guest for this episode. Man of the moment and one of the artists that sets the course for techno as we speak, Shifted, is on duty for episode 19. Noone knows exactly who is behind this mysterious monnniker, all we know he is no newcomer to the electronic arena. His debutalbum 'Crossed Paths' on Luke Slater's Mote Evolver label, is a stunning collection of tracks: rich in textures and with an almost physical ambiance. He made this podcast especially for his appearance at the first edition of BALANS at Melkweg on friday the 6th of july. Enjoy the darkness and make sure you don't miss him in Amsterdam!

01.What is you relationship with Balans?

No relationship to mention really, i'm just a fan of both the label, which is putting out consistently great music and of Darko as a producer.

02.What do you do to try and stay in balance? Any tips & secrets you would like to share with us night folks?

Try to eat well, not drink to much and enjoy life. Stress is the cause of so much ill health, I think if you have a healthy mind then your body follows.

03.About the podcast, can you tell us the story behind the mix?

I just wanted to do something more aimed at the Dancefloor. the intro and the outro also have some processed field recordings that i added on top to make it a little more interesting.

04.What gear did you use to make the Balans podcast?

Usually i'm playing vinyl, but i just recently moved to Berlin and as a result have no Technics here at the moment. I put this together in Ableton Live.

05.What do you have in store for us (gigs/releases) the coming months?

I have a collaboration with Edit Select that just came out on Semantica, I'm also working on a full EP for them. Aside from that theres remixes for Mike Parker, DJ Skirt & Planetary Assault Systems coming soon. And i'm working on a new Pacific Blue 12" and something for Avian.. No doubt there will be another EP for Mote Evolver this year as well.

Shrouded in anonymity, Shifted's productions are fuelled by a personal passion for techno. This four-track EP for Mote-Evolver represents an earnest expression of creativity from an enigmatic artist; freed from the restrictions of expectation and reputation.

Opening up with the kind of sparsely constructed but highly incendiary deep- space-techno that has characterized much of Moteʼs recent output, Drained is a thumping bass-driven ride through sinister moods and scratchy sounding effects.

Polaron brings an abrasive feel to the release, contrasting with the deeper moods found elsewhere on the EP, as heavy beats and mechanical percussion provide momentum while resounding chimes and shrill stabs add frenetic drama.

Futuristic and hypnotic, Bound combines the pacey dynamism of snappy rhythms with mesmerizing atmospheric loops which weave together to create a shifting melody; oscillating subtly against a backdrop of relentless percussion.

Junk appears as a digital only bonus. Tense and brooding, this pulsing, stripped back epic is centered on bleeping melodic lines and echoing chimes that fade in and out like distant code transmissions lost amongst the surrounding sonic hum.
