Rounding up a year which saw crucial releases from Iron Curtis and Quarion, »Can’t Help It« is the long awaited return of sample wizards Session Victim to the ep format. This Retreat 3-tracker is a profound, subtle and quite melancholic affair, perfect for those emotional moments in the early morning. Skillfully arranged and featuring the impeccable playing of Linnart Ebel, »Can’t Help It« is once again an essential statement from one of House Music’s most fascinating duo.
»Pass The Diesel« begins with a stuttering beat, seagull like noises and muted chords that wouldn’t be out of place on a vintage Group Home instrumental. Staying on the aquatic tip, Session Victim introduce a beautiful Rhodes sequence which takes the track into a dream-like – dare we say californian? – direction. Spiced up with gentle synth noodlings, ethereal vocal snippets and a magical strings motive, »Pass The Diesel« bathes in the deeper shades of House without ever drowning in a cliché, thanks to its snapping drums and vivid arrangement.
Slowing things down a notch, »Hyuwee« starts off with what is maybe the most unconventional instrument in Session Victim’s repertoire, the banjo! But the fear of witnessing these down-to-earth-boys actually becoming the boys-down-south vanishes after 30 seconds: a melancholic 3-Chord theme, snappy 808 patterns and funky drum fills lead the tune in a familiar (but vast) territory. Linnart Ebel’s talent is put to great use with subtle guitar licks that give a lively feel to the whole song. You will notice that Session Victim have labeled »Hyuwee« as an »instrumental«. Does it mean that we can expect a vocal version in the near future? All bets are on as to who will provide the vocals to this one …
Flip the record over for the magnificent »Tearwiper«, a slow-house groover which might be Session Victim’s deepest excursion on wax so far. Abyssal chords, radio effects and a dragging 105 bpm beat set the stage for a grand sonic adventure. The track breaks down after the introduction of the guitar theme and a warm sub bass takes center stage in order to drive »Tearwiper« in a confident manner. Shakers and bubbling synths are floating around whereas Linnart’s hypnotic playing provides a steady backing to the bassline. Another breakdown and the elements are nicely washed away while a thoughtful guitar solo brings this underwater journey to an end.

Brooklyn, New York, besöker ännu en gång Södra Bar för att dela med sig av sin hiphop via legenden DJ Esquire med en DJ-karriär som slår även de mest etablerade på fingrarna. Radioprogram (Beatminerz Radio: www.dabeatminerz.com), live DJ-shower, olika klubb- och loungeresidens (”Beats Rhymes & Nightlife”, ”Art Battles NYC”) och otaliga tävlingar över hela USA, Kanada och Europa.

DJ Esquire är en tvåfaldig DMC USA Champion och har nominerats till "Turntablist Of The Year" vid 2014 års Global Spin Awards. Esquire placerades i topp 5 på 2013 DMC World DJ Championships i London. Han är också 2012 DMC USA Battle for Supremacy Champion och 2012 IDA USA Champion. Han representerade stolt USA vid 2012 DMC World DJ Finals i London, med en topp 4 rankning i världen. Efter mer än tretton år av battle-karriär, är DJ Esquire femfaldig National DJ Champion. Esquire har också säkrat en kateder vid Scratch DJ Academy (www.scratch.com) där han undervisar DJ-aspiranter.

För att krydda dansgolvet ytterligare har vi bjudit in våra vänner Pure P och Mad Mats, två av de absolut viktigaste profilerna för Stockholms nattliv. Mad Mats är en sann veteran med närmare tre decennier av DJande i sin resumé och ett turnéschema som sträcker sig från Miami till Moskva. 1996 startade han en av de klubbar som skulle bli den mest långlivade och respekterade i svensk klubbhistoria – Raw Fusion. Klubben blev så omtalad internationellt att det utvecklades systerklubbar i New York och London. Mats mixar alla tänkbara genrer och subkategorier av musik, med en sällsynt fingertoppskänsla. Världsklass, helt enkelt. Daniel ”Pure P” Sandell har hyllats unisont av kritiker, hiphopkonsumenter och producentkollegor. Karriären är lika mustig och imponerande som hans trendsättande skägg, med egna projekt (Up Hygh, Hygher Baby etc.), produktioner för utländska artister (Foreign Exchange, Yahzarah mfl.), DJ-gig över hela världen, mastring av andra artister och den egna klubben Devotion. Questlove, Phonte, Bobbito Garcia, DJ House Shoes och Ali Shaheed Muhammad sållar sig till hans fans, vilket är en merit ingen annan svensk hiphop-producent kan skryta med. Förvänta dig ny och gammal hiphop, r&b, soul, boogie, funk, steppers och soulful house.

Yes! Soundsystem serverar 90’s hiphop, svettig r&b, rap anthems och slow jams under kristallkronorna på Mosebacke Etablissemang med Dj Jayzon och Ricki Ross. Till champagnen serverar vi även dubstep och trap med Trickykid och DJ Sheit bakom spakarna. Ingen kan ha undgått dessa namn om man frekventerar klubbar och fester med lite extra bas. 

Daughters är det kreativa kollektivet med stil från top till tå. Döttrarna tycker det är viktigt med stil och kvalité och tänker värma upp leverera just det på nyårsgolvet. Mycket funkiga nyårsbeats utlovas! POP your bottles with these Chic Chicks!

Yes! - Nyårsafton På Södra Teatern Mix

As they did on their last release, Hell Yeah once again look to offer new takes on some of their excellent recent album projects here. This new EP finds four producers tackling tracks from Tempelhof’s blissful and beautiful, ambient and slo-mo work alongside Gigi Masin, namely 2014’s Hoshi. Those producers are Ptaki, Balearic Gabba Sound System as well as label regular Luminodisco and the legendary Reverso 68.

First up is fast rising The Very Polish Cut-Outs artist Ptaki, who with his remix offers up a seductive and sombre number with lazy chords, gently swaying drums and a subtle balearic feel. Dreamy vocals complete the picture, but buy the EP digitally and you will also get a bonus instrumental.

Then comes the label’s in house and off kilter production team, Balearic Gabba Sound System, who flip ‘Buena Onda’ into a deep cut bit of sunset disco with glowing arps, elastic drums and sweeping string sounds in typically stylish fashion.

It’s all very romantic and sun kissed and that continues with Reverso 68 aka long time balearic stars Pete Herbert and Phil Mison.
Their take on Red Venus is one that slowly builds in stature, with plenty of lush pads, cute stabs and percolating drums that really lift you up.

Lastly, Hell Yeah regular Luminodisco gets a little more broken up and experimental with his dishevelled but soulful sounding version of My Velvet Book It’s slouchy like a hip hop record, but over all, like a modern take on Don Carlos.

Le label allemand O_RS fête ses 5 ans avec la sortie imminente d’un vinyle collector. Nous vous offrons aujourd’hui en avant première l’une des pépites de la galette d’anniversaire. Elle est signée par deux producteurs que nous suivons attentivement : @m-ono & @luvless, souvent reconnus pour leur house des plus savoureuses. Les deux compères de Leipzig (tout comme O_RS) ont gratifié le label d’une petite bombe house nommée Luanda.
