NTS GiGi FM PRESENTS FIREGROUND LIVE 16.07.2025

Swiss DJ/Producer Audrey Danza debuts for the Bassiani Podcast series with an hour and a half of her own music, composed mostly of her unreleased tracks as well as a few exciting collaborations. From tripped-out techno, to house and trance bent rhythms, this mix shows that Audrey’s course has been nothing short of impressive, from Geneva and now Berlin. Since her intro to the local scene back in 2019, she’s racked up a residency at multidisciplinary event space Motel Campo, played clubs from Panorama Bar to Circoloco to Robert Johnson and Fabric, and, as a means of rereleasing lost 80-90s records at first (and now her own productions as well), kicked off her label Proxima in 2020. She’s also been active in the world of Berlin nightlife, where she relocated since 2022, with frequent collabs with the Sound Metaphors family, from party series to collaborations around her label. On top of a busy schedule and a growing pile of remixes and from the ground up productions, Audrey stays the course. Her sound is a fusion of industrial beats and percussions, acid, 90s synths house, self-aware and constantly cross-referencing to sculpt a fleshed out world of sound that’s psychedelic and deeply immersive. Bassiani Podcast 268 is a signature mix of warped transmissions and assembly line beats, a gradual burn and sharp ascent to peak-time techno compiled by a leading light of the Swiss electronic music scene.  Nothing but Audrey: a full set of her own sounds, start to finish.

From the Morevi Records night at Horoom on June 13th comes this next instalment in the series. In a little over a decade, Separat has proved his mettle behind decks in his hometown Aachen, current base Cologne and other places like Gewölbe, Tresor or Openground. His sound has been instrumental in the local scene, a true underground talent and one of the heads behind Brandwerk. His press presence is fairly light, and a keen focus on his sound the most critical part of his work: groovy, immersive and playful. Fun through and through, with tones and charging rhythms which are designed for dancing the night away. Enjoy his three hours vinyl mix for Bassiani Podcast 270 is pure, movement-geared music recorded live on the Horoom floor.

DJ Sodeyama’s murky alias The People in Fog is up next for a very special number. The DJ/producer has been active since the 90s, reshaping his home city, extensively touring the globe, releasing music, founding record labels (Arpa) and toying with different incarnations of his palette under a few different names. The People In Fog is one such project, founded a decade ago as license to lean into his more disco and house inclinations, a means of connecting with a lighter penchant for Chicago-style and Balearic rhythms. It’s a manifestation that’s given the world several first-rate releases like debut album A Ray of Light (2013), Album: 1977 (2021) and this year’s Too Much Knobs and Cables. His whistle-stop promo tour of Japan for that latest release has been whipping up plenty of shifting grooves and phase distortions, and delivering that fresh take on sound to IRL crowds in his native land. For the rest of us, the nine-tracker’s a perfect source for summer anthems: a fuzzy, analog patchwork of synths and low-end bass. Bassiani Podcast 273 takes all of this and turns up the heat, The People In Fog’s deep reverence for underground sounds is here for a two-hour mash up of grimy percussions and sensuous urban sounds. One of techno’s true underground heroes, Function steps in with a mix that captures the essence of his club sound: deep, dark, hypnotic and intensely layered. Cerebral yet physical, this set distills over 30 years of experience into a rolling trip that’s as uncompromising as it is immersive.

Recorded in Berlin with a Xone 96, with Function’s signature sound design woven throughout, the mix bridges heavyweight classics and future-shaping material. Kicking off with Nastia Reigel’s massive new remix of his own Disaffected, it showcases three tracks from her upcoming debut album Identity (out September 26 on Infrastructure).

The selection runs wide: from Regis, Rødhâd, LSD, Nørbak, Nastia Reigel, Ignez, Rene Wise, Silent Servant, Alarico and UFO95 to unreleased gems by Filippo Scorcucchi - alongside Function’s own productions, edits and textures. Deftly merging her background in sound design with techno and its real world applications, Toxido Mask is a shadowy DJ/Producer who calls Berlin home and has been challenging the fringe of her craft for over a decade. Her fastidious selections and skill on the decks are nothing short of legendary, providing experiences that rumble and vibrate with mystical power, characterised by a raw intensity and fragile balance between ‘harmony and disharmony, clarity and distortion’, a testament to the transformative nature of the genre and her keen understanding of it. She’s a Tresor resident and curator of the OMM Transmission Podcast and party series, an outlet for further explorations into the murky world of this defiant sound. Productions too have offered a glimpse into the shifting sands of her percussive mayhem with releases on Semantica Records, Aneelhi and Pregnant Void. Toxido’s paradigm has found form wherever possible and proven her singular vision can constantly change and provoke. Bassiani Podcast 274 is a dose of primal techno that radiates and consumes its listener, expansive and potent beats from a formidable talent.

Japan’s finest techno export is back. Since his last release for Token in 2010, Go Hiyama  has graced other heavyweight techno institutions like Stroboscopic Artefacts, Perc Trax &amp; Audio Assault. Now he returns to Token, following Phase’s highly acclaimed ‘Binary Opposition Reprocessed’ earlier this summer.

‘Arc One’ contains 3 tracks, each with a different timbre. ‘Farnsworth House’ focuses on hazy atmospherics over a stomping drum pattern, while ‘Dymaxion Map’ is a more of an instant heavy hitter with punishing percussion.
Go keeps the best for the flip side track. ‘Fallingwater’ builds slowly over a tough yet sophisticated off beat rhythm. Tension grows while the haunting noisy synths lead to a thrilling breakdown, after which it kicks back in ferociously.

Go Hiyama remains one the most interesting techno artists of the last decennium and continues to intrigue by reinventing his sound without losing that recognisable touch. I’m a fan, to say the least.

"Five years ago, Token was born with the release of Inigo Kennedy’s ‘Identify Yourself’. Since then, each of his EP’s has been a milestone in the label’s growth and this new 2-tracker promises to be no different.
Inigo’s style is hard to define. It can be dark, dreamy, fast, slow, hard hitting, industrial, melodic or more, but you always know it’s him. Over the years he developed a unique sonic identity while always enhancing his technical and creative expertise.

Token 24, which has a double a-side, reflects all of this. ‘Spectre’ hits hard yet gloomy. Relentless drums bathing in reverb and a strange synth line create yet another unique IK-piece. 
‘Wonderhorse’ is built on the same foundations but explores a more melodic &amp; psychedelic trajectory.

We know we have kept you waiting for new Kennedy wizardry since last years ‘Revenge’, but this should definitely make up for that." (Kr!z)
