Blutch unveils a new track from his forthcoming debut album ‘Terre Promise’ (January 2022) with ‘Poplar’, one of the most eclectic track from the album.

After breakbeat and UKG explorations on ‘Cobalan’ and ‘River’, Blutch unveils a new colours palette on ‘Poplar’: an introduction sounding like a tribute to Boards of Canada’s ‘Dayvan Cowboy’ or ‘Baba O’Riley’ by The Who, mixed with one of the cultures that has animated him the most since his teen years, hip-hop. At the crossroads of styles, Blutch signs a new libertarian and borderless piece, fundamentally contemporary.

‘Poplar’ refers to the street where he grew up. As a nod to the youth, a piece thought to give strength and energy through its great piano’s chords, sublimated by Fabien Lahaye and recorded at Brest’s Conservatory in France.

Airy and melancholic, smooth and organic, a meticulous production with great alchemy between plenty of influences, from hip hop to electronic or pop.

Two remixes of ‘Poplar’ will be released in November by two well respected French producers: Correspondant label head Jennifer Cardini and Maud Geffray, member of Scratch Massive.

To celebrate his new single ‘Poplar’, a new extract from his forthcoming debut album (January 2022), Blutch invited two respected French producers to rework his new track: half of Scratch Massive, Maud Geffrey, and one of the most iconic French electro ambassadors, Jennifer Cardini, accompanied by Damon Jee.

Both producer delivers a galvanizing and soaring club rework. A creative use of the track’s richness and vocals between dancing keys and italo vibes. 

Maud Geffray’s rework turns ‘Poplar’ in a kaleidoscopic blend of good vibes full of happiness and light. A psychedelic and colorful vision fusing liquid notes and touch of the original vocal. 

Jennifer Cardini & Damon Jee deliver a darker and a tougher version from the start with percussive sounds and gradually swells with synths and kicks that pop, with fantomatic sample of the original vocal. Between light and darkness, an irresistibly dancing techno track. 

Two classy remixes by producers who handle emotions well.

‘Terre Promise’ is the debut album of the French electronic artist Blutch. Between nostalgia and melancholy in his native Brittany, a journey to the borders of electronica, breakbeat, house and IDM. Following in the footsteps of Rone, James Holden, Four Tet or Bicep, Blutch affirms with this manifesto his ability to draw meditative landscapes as well as dancefloor escapades, syntheses of multiple influences crossed over the course of a faultless career, from his first love, hip-hop and abstract beats, his house vinyls released on the Barbecue label remixed by the cream of the genre’s guardians, from the American legend Terrence Parker to the more confidential Red Rack’em and Strip Steve, or the adventurous new chapter he has begun to write on Astropolis Records since 2020 with ‘La Cité des Étoiles’, remixed by the great Michael Mayer.

‘Terre Promise’ continues his unique trademark: smooth and inventive textures, vocals that caress and embrace you, percussive and contemporary rhythms with an immersive sound design and those catchy gimmicks he’s known for.

By immersing us in his memories, Blutch opens the doors to the landscapes of his childhood and dreamed views, through a plural sound palette: UK dance music heritage (‘Cobalan’, ‘River’), contemplative tracks (‘Les Bois’, ‘Terre Promise’), contemporary IDM with pop contours (‘Poplar’, ‘Rosko’, ‘Eusa’), or crossovers with other instrumentalists (Mirabelle Gillis’ violins on ‘Choices’ and ‘Cobalan’, guitar and drums on ‘Phoenix’ or the piano on ‘Poplar’) and danceable odes (‘Floatin’, ‘Les Sables Blancs’ or ‘Remparts’ with Maxime Dangles).

A promising debut album, as atmospheric as it is frenetic. Driven by the desire to bring people together and reconnect with the earth, Blutch invites you on a deep and spiritual introspective journey, where the listener can easily imagine the producer intention. And if not, just attend the a/v live accompanied by the sublime visuals of motion designer Romain Navier for an electrifying experience, between coloured or abstract 3D and images of landscapes captured in Blutch’s North Brittany. A live show that has already enchanted Panoramas in Morlaix, Clujotronic in Romania with other dates to come (Astropolis, Paris, ...).

Full of emotions, this beautiful, sincere and intense album is enough to send Blutch to the top of the electronic music scene in France. The impressive list of collaborations and remixes around the album is proof of this, with major artists of the French electronic music scene such as Jennifer Cardini, Maxime Dangles, Lauer, Madben, Maud Geffray or Mézigue, emerging artists such as Malcolm (Global Warming Records), or from acoustic music such as violin player Mirabelle Gillis.

Balls of scrunched up paper littered the floor, the notes scrawled across them now illegible. Indecisiveness controlled her every move, she preferred people to make decisions for her — the stress of having choices was all-consuming. Even her decision to pen the thoughts and feelings prompted by these struggles had become saturated with ifs and buts; rights and wrongs. She needed her path dictated...

In 2020 French producer Blutch made his debut on Astropolis Records - the label arm of the festival of the same name in Brittany. Since then he's been hard at work on his follow up for the imprint, this time coming in the form of his first album Terre Promise. A showcase of his knack for playing with mood and emotion, the 12 tracks connect the dots between electronica, breakbeat, house and IDM, straddling the realms of contemplative soundscapes and tracks custom-made for the dance floor. 

In anticipation of the full LP release the label called on the likes of Jennifer Cardini, Lauer, Malcolm and several others, to offer up their own takes on the original LP tracks. These come included as part of the CD release.

After his acclaimed album "Terre Promise", Blutch is back on the grill with this EP named "À l'ancienne" which brings him back to the more organic sounds in which he navigated before his first album. We find him with the track "Baby", the groove and the party which marked his productions on the label but also the abstract hip hop on the track "Roundun" in collaboration with his buddy Fabien Lahaye on the keyboard and finally the track "Yesterday", a kind of bridge between all his influences and layers which shape the universe of Blutch.

This Brittany native has a broad, borderless sound that mixes up electronica, breakbeat, house and IDM with stirring emotional undercurrents that range from nostalgia to melancholy. Last year he served up his superb ‘Terre Promise’ album on the label, and once again, it combined a raft of different sounds on one majestic record. He again shows off his ability to layer captivating melodies over compelling rhythms on this fresh new EP which extends his LP released last year with a more dancefloor suite. "Condate" is the original name of the city of Rennes in Brittany, France, where he lives. A city he loves passionately. The tracks featured in this EP are mainly taken from his live act "Terre Promise". The cover artwork also comes from the audiovisual live act: a motion design work made by Romain Navier, mixing landscapes from Brittany and hallucinated 3D creations, dressing Blutch's stage with a fabulous work around the album's theme. These tracks represent the more festive part of the live show, just as Blutch's love for Rennes is also linked to its festive character. 

Opener ‘Super Charger’ is a slick cosmic exploration on upbeat drums. It is filled with mind-expanding colours and chords but has a playful and catchy lead that will get hands in the air and bring absolute joy to the dance floor. ‘Condate’ is a much more physical cut driven by a slick breakbeat. Melodic rain falls down the face of the track as booming bass roots you to the dance floor, and once again, the whole track is doused in heavenly synth work and subtle waves of euphoria. Showing yet another different side to his sound, the brilliant ‘Rebirth’ is a deeper track with astral synths radiating all around you. It has a classy trance vibe that sweeps you off your feet and carries you off to the stars.

Remixer Azo is a Belgian powerhouse behind top parties in Brussels; she is also a Kiosk Radio resident, keyboardist and sound engineer. She mixes acid, techno and electro into a colourful and high-energy trip that will take the club to the next dimension.

"Blutch is back, and for many months to come, with a brand-new project! After his debut album Terre Promise, acclaimed by the medias and public, he returns with a special format: a new track twice a month for a whole year!

As he gets down to composing his second album, the (French) Brittany-based producer keeps us on our toes with 27 unreleased tracks that will be released from November 1, 2023 to November 6, 2024.
These tracks feature his signature ingredients: electronica, breakbeat, house, indie dance... all with a touch of emotion. Written between 2018 and 2023, some tracks were intended for the Terre Promise album and were not kept for the final selection, not without difficulty.
