@lukid is about as low key as they come. Somehow, he's managed to remain in the shadows despite making music - either solo or as half of Rezzett - for cult labels like Actress' Werkdiscs and The Trilogy Tapes, as well as his own Glum. His style is hard to define and can take in anything from caustic sonic collages to experimental and abstract sound design via lo-fi house and blistering beats. Since 2018 he has also made old school jungle as Refreshers, but whatever he does, it always explores the outermost fringes. The same is always true of his never less than adventurous transmissions on NTS each month.

In just 55 minutes for us this week, he serves up a breathless trip through hugely kinetic sounds that could be 30 years old or not out till next month. Amongst the colliding energies of hardcore, jungle and rave he will often drop a pitched up vocal so soulful and emotive it hurts, before racing onto the next flurry of drums. Frankly, it's a high speed mix of hyper real sounds that acts like a double shot of adrenaline straight into your bloodstream. You have been warned.

From Ben Thomas aka BNJMN comes an entirely new and different project, BRACK. Following a string of excellent releases for the likes of Rush Hour and Delsin, the Berlin-based British producer has launched his own imprint. Its inaugural release promises to simultaneously satisfy long-time listeners, and throw them for a loop.

BRACK 001 sees BNJMN venturing outside his digital domain for the first time, eschewing polished, computer-based constructions for an altogether dirtier, darker sound. He’s in raw, rare form on this EP, layering distorted samples, seething synths and coarse drum work to hypnotic effect. Nevertheless, the young producer’s deft hand and knack for trance-inducing grooves shine through the miasma. As with his best works, these tracks are alternately retro and forward-leaning, expansive and introspective, and completely singular. With his new label, we can expect the same characteristic combination of sounds and sensibilities. Step into the unique sonic world of BRACK 001.

Following the massive double pack compilation Eight Wigglin' Ways To Die, we return with the debut of a fresh artist, Faetch. Although a new name on the scene, Faetch's advanced take on harder edged techno is far from the work of a rookie it would seem. Four tearing club tracks here that contain all the ingredients needed to move the party into another dimension: firing rhythms, strange sampling, manic synth programming, unique sound design ... we could keep going. Faetch 1 is simply a corker and strong addition to the Earwiggle catalogue.

In techno circles, Cassegrain shouldn't need too much of an introduction. With a label résumé that includes, among others, Prologue, Infrastructure New York, Killekill, and Ostgut Ton—as well as highly regarded performances at Berghain, Village Underground, and Output—they've more than stamped their name on the scene. Alex Tsiridis and Hüseyin Evirgen—the two artists behind Cassegrain—formed the project after a chance meeting at the Redbull Music Academy in Barcelona. In the years following, they collaborated remotely via email, sending stems back and forth before making a move to Berlin where they currently share a studio.

Cassegrain are releasing their music mainly on their own label Arcing Seas. Under their solo monikers they are also steadily putting out great music. Magna Pia recently had a new EP out on Soma Records and Rhyw on great platforms like Shifted's label Avian.

Excited to release a new album via Bandcamp in this occasion. For a long time I had in mind to put together some tracks I made in the years but it was quite difficult to find the time and the concentration to do it, but this period finally gave me the chance to realize it. The playlist is formed with tracks created starting from the "Prologue period" in 2012 arriving until few weeks ago in 2020 and the orientation of the album is quite drone and atmospheric. Hope some of you who follow my music since the beginning of social media era will like this work and hopefully, also the ones who approached my music in the last period. Alan Backdrop - Before The Light [Album Preview]

Hailing from Wales but a resident of Japan for the past 25 years, Steve Good has, in various forms, been involved with music for his entire life. From classical violin through just about every genre imaginable, he finally found himself sucked into the vortex of London’s rave scene in the 90s. After moving to Tokyo in ’95, he started work at a recording studio, producing, mixing, mastering, remixing and programming music for artists, bands, games, and TV commercials, while simultaneously DJing for clubs and parties and producing via his own downtempo project, Puff Dragon. Involved in Labyrinth since its beginnings, Steve takes responsibility for that festival’s legendary sound quality.

After moving to the wild northern-Japanese island of Hokkaido in 2012 with his family, he found natural inspiration for what is now recognised as the Labyrinth sound. The epic beauty and remoteness of this icy, rock-covered isle on the north-west corner of the Pacific Ocean became the inspiration for Steve’s musical explorations of the interplay between the human and the natural, creating a huge and lasting effect on both his own musical output and the indelible artistic mark of Labyrinth Festival.

This present live set grew out of a phase of sadness and listlessness Steve experienced as the upheavals of 2020 ricocheted across the globe. In the absence of those usually unnoticed markers of the passage of time, anchor points drift and the moorings that ground opportunities for perspective and insight flit and vanish. Yet in this sea of disorientation, the plants continue to grow, rivers flow, waves crash, and the seasons keep on turning. In place of what appeared to be missing arises the possibility of experiencing each moment in its sublime evanescence. Steve Good’s Patterns of Perception 67 is forest music, mountain music, lake music. It holds chaos and beauty within it, transporting the listener to places both on the edge, and at the core, of the fleeting beauty of existence.

After witnessing his ethereal, truly moving opening set on day two of last year’s Labyrinth festival, this mix is a uniquely personal one for our collective. We’re delighted to welcome Steve onto our platform to share his inimitable musical vision.
