This song holds special meaning to me. Cloud Thoughts is a term I heard an amazing therapist use to describe unwanted, persistent thoughts, especially in those with OCD. She said cloud thoughts are just that, passing, floating and ever changing. If you focus on the clouds all you will see are the clouds and more clouds. But to just let them be means they will come and go in their own. They will change on their own. There is nothing to do. 
The song starts with a persistent progression (the thought) going over and over and over in the ‘left hand’. The melody starts to present itself slowly and a little out of tempo. This represents when you realize you have that persistent thought and you start to ignore it. You’re essentially making the space for your conscious thought to take over. As the song progresses the new melody starts to work in harmony with the cloud thoughts (which are always there). The idea is when you let go and just be you find harmony in what you can control and what you can not. But because you can control more by letting go you start to change your whole song. As the song finishes, it’s showing you have ‘won’ this round by ignoring and letting go. However, the clouds thoughts are always there, so it was fitting for the song to end with a ‘new thought’ fading out representing how it’s nonstop and the practice of letting go and ignoring is also nonstop.

A track originally written as a teenager, brought back to life in 2020 as part of the collection of Piano tracks, Breaking Tension.

A New Beginning

Étude de l'Ombre is a piece I wrote for solo piano that moves gently between soft light and shadow. It is a small glimpse of a completely different side, my usual comfort zone, that I won't be posting much of. It builds slowly with flowing arpeggios and a tender melody in the upper register. Rather than following a rigid structure, it flows continuously, developing through subtle harmonic changes and gentle variations.

I compose / mock-up music for pleasure, for fun, for learning, for commission, and most importantly because I am dedicated to music.
