Recorded on my mobile phone at the Maltings in Birr, 02/080/13, before the launch event for Birr Vintage Week Arts Trail. Before the public arrived, I was warming up and was very taken by the sound of the room.

Great tune by modal jazz master McCoy Tyner. I arranged it for a quartet of saxes - baritone carrying the bass line, and if I remember correctly, three tenors. It was recorded at Elektra Studios in Dublin in 2012 and mixed by Graham Byrne. It was somewhat experimental on my part and turned out better than it might have! I just found this again on a USB. Although I was in two minds about it at the time, I quite like it now!

Song Of Songs

Don Pullen's tune, Saturday Nite at the Cosmos, originally recorded by the Don Pullen/George Adams Quartet. I arranged this for sax quartet years ago and forgot about it. This was recorded and mixed at Elektra Studios by Graham Byrne in 2012. I found it on a USB and thought to give it an airing at last.

Demo Miles O Bog

This track was recorded on a basic device in the basement of Joachim's house in Banagher Co Offaly, in 2014. We played a lot of 50s and 60s modern jazz standards, and some jams. This is one that we came back to several times. It evolved into a folk-type tune with simple chords and an improvisation. As much a mood as a composition. I thought it sounded somewhat West African, hence the title .

Ghana

This is a transcription of a hymn which I did for concert band. I was hoping to have it played for one of the Easter services in Tullamore but there wasn't sufficient rehearsal time. So, it's on the back burner till next year. 
This is a midi download from MuseScore which I used to notate the arrangement. There's no production on it and it's not live instruments, but I think as a rough demo it's not too bad.

Saxophonist, flute and whistle player, occasional keyboarder and percussionist. My interests range through jazz, folk, Irish trad, soul, r'n'b, dub reggae and world music. I teach saxophone, flute, clarinet and bassoon from beginners to advanced students. In addition I can give guidance in performance and improvisation - this could apply to all instruments, not just woodwind.
