** Discussing the Menu ** 

Discussing the menu will never nourish our bodies. 
Shall we stop talking for a while?
Just point your finger to show me where the meal is,
and I'll go and feed myself. 

Yes, I know...
Pointing fingers can be rude.
But that's collateral damage of a basic cognitive activity.
For many words we use, pointing precedes meaning. 
We can point at the sea and say: "Look! The sea!" 
And thus we can assign names to the beasts, the trees and the stars. 
That's the miracle of pointing. 
Somehow we understand that we are naming a thousand  things, 
not giving a thousand names to the stupid pointing finger.

And thus, as we understand each other, 
we are both edified while rejoicing together.
Joy is the secret prize of sharing,
a prize beyond words or the ringing sound of bells.
A wordless no bell prize.   

And there's so much more to understand
than the things we can perceive 
with our feeble ears and naked eyes...
Did you know?

In 40 years of loving classical music, string quartets always seemed a bit chaotic to me; even structured, delicate, mannered Haydn, Mozart, seemed, to me, on the verge of flying out of control. Here is a bass quartet (I like the lower tones of the bowed instruments) that flirts with - no, hugs and squeezes - chaos.

The opening track off my first ever attempt at writing, recording, and producing and album by myself ("Instrumentally Challenged") (1999-2000).  I was trying to program a bass part for a different song and realized 3/4 of the way through that I made a mistake and it was way too fast.  Instead of deleting it I thought it might be fun to try soloing over it. 

The title comes from something two of my friends used to say all the time (once, a couple times once...).  Not sure anyone really knows why they said it, or why they thought it was so funny.
